Anyone keen to fish Shelly tomorrow, my crew today turned a funny shade of green before the spread was even set today and have bailed for tomorrow...

Scouse is fueled, tackled up and ready to go...

I also got dropped by crew at the last minute, literally, decided to go in the pissing rain, pulled for snoek off Glenashley ended up dropping one but the shad were in destroy mode and made short work of my fillets :unhap
Pulled some small konas from deep off Umhlanga back to base, ended up with a 8 kg  :dor: on the 50m outside of No1, took a purple/flash Williamson 5m from the boat, water is beaut but only 23deg.

Launched on Saturday off Durban with my mate Shaun on "Mershore". A bit of drizzle here and there and a lumpy sea to start, our game plan was to get a dorado for my 6 year old son as it was his first ever trip on the boat. We got some decent livebait and headed for the ships, working the deeper ships off Umhlanga with small konas, feathers and Halco's. No takers on the lures, so we headed in to the shallower ships off umhlanga, eventually settled for a lone black ship sitting in 40m of water. There were no other boats near so we put out two livies and slow trolled around the ship. On our third circle we got a pull on the downrigged bait and a nice dorrie came cartwheeling out the water only to spit the hook. I reeled in the trace and quickly rigged another mozzie, flicked it back in and the dorrie smashed it straight behind the motors. We landed this one of around 6.5kg. Two more routes around the ship produced two more strikes but again the fish both spat the hooks on the first jump - one was a nice bull close to the 10kg mark. Later we got another pull from a small peanut dorrie which we gave to Ryan to fight and after around 5min we loaded his first ever dorado and first ever fish off the boat - a perfect little 2kg model. He handled like a champ and turned out to be our lucky livebait charm, catching a few strings of mackerel right under the ship. We headed back to club around 12.30 for lunch. Thanks to FFF and Shaun17 for some helpful background info pre-trip which helped us find the right areas to fish.  :+ cred:  chaps!

We fished for bottoms on friday and it was the first time id used my scarbourogh spooled with 80lb braid. Thats the first and last time i ever use that bloody reel. i hooked into a 100kg plus johnny and trust me its no joke fighting a fish with that much power without any drag. Fishing was generally crappy with not much biting and the wind making it pretty uncomfortable. Windguru got it horribly wrong.

Come on man up, it is good fun "NOT" LOL i know the feeling, but fishing with a KP and braid is the best. I use a 9inch with 100lb braid.

After staring at an awesome flat sea all Friday, my trusty sidekick arrived down in Shelly and we launched early Saturday morning. Plan was to troll for a couple of hours then head off to do some jigging and then a bit of chumming thereafter weather permitting...

Got out to our marks and quickly went tight with a nice double up. Don made easy work of a nice specimen of around 5-6kg while i boxed a slightly bigger one on the shotgun. As Don gaffed my fish it decided to take the gaff for a swim and then shake it off but we retrieved it later. Thereafter almost each turn we pulled fish ranging from about 5-9kg. We also had 2 quadruple ups which was good sport with just the 2 of us, and both times all 4 fish landed.

On another turn, luck was on our side when we had a fish close to the boat and it ran through the props. I was cursing as we'd lost our most productive lure when Don saw he was still attached to the prop. Kept it in gear to stop him pulling loose then Don gaffed the line, landed the fish and got my killer lure back. Happy days.

We dropped a decent fish in the prop wash which bent both trebles on the Xrap 30 wide open and also dropped another good fish on the shotgun which swam at the boat faster than i could reel.

After that, we decided to head straight for chumming as the weather was picking up but had no luck there. Decided to head home and was back on the beach before 9am with 9 fish in the hatch, 4 released and another 3 dropped. Good to get a few fish for a change.
