Went out yesterday with Gareth and Kieran. School holidays are almost finished, my boat is still being repaired, and was very kind of Gareth offering to take Kieran and myself out. We did a bit of bottom fishing and got a couple of nice fish

Very nice FFF and Gareth.

What sort of depth you guys fishing?

Fished quite a few marks. Most fish were caught shallow 30m. Fishing was hard yesterday the deeper marks produced very few fish.

Thanks FFF nice to know you can still get some nice fish that shallow.

We tried our hand at bottoms 2 weeks back and had a ball catching over 20-30 fish although only 6 size fish landed,  slinger a red stump nose and a bronze bream and lost 3 good fish but I guess its to be expected when messing around with 30lb spinning out fits.  :hehe:

Yes there are still good fish shallow but have to fish through the peckers.
Kieran enjoys the bottom fishing and uses a light stick.
A trick with the light stick is to use the grapnel sinkers from rock and surf and cut the wires off. they very streamline and go to the bottom very quickly.

Went out on Saturday with my kayak for the first time. launched at vetchies and fished the backline, caught lots of mozzies, sand soldiers and mackerals. One small rock cod about 25cm was released and a cape stumpie of 22cm was released.. was too skrik to go deeper without a buddy so i just fished with the group stocking up on bait fish. was a lovely day out, cant wait to hit the water again

EDIT: Sorry posted in the wrong section, only seen http://www.ultimateangling.co.za/index.php?topic=8251.280 now.. will post there in future

Got back from my cape road trip on Friday evening looked at the weather and did a launch on Sunday morning in perfect conditions, tried for snoek but the sea was too flat and no rips so went deep, managed one Daga and a few small reds which we returned, was great to be back on the water again and get the cobwebs off the bottom sticks.
A bad days fishing is better than sitting at home moping.

Well done on the dagga. See you on the water as soon as our motor is repaired.
