Eish guys what can I say, we are hosting our interclub this weekend and the swell is HUGE! It will slack off over the weekend but so far it may be a late launch tomorrow (or a call-off) and fishing Sunday. Luckily we have a very experienced weather committee and will always make the call SAFETY FIRST.

I cancelled launching on Sunday due to possible unfavourable conditions, from the (non) reports it looks like the right call?

Will be interesting to hear if the interclub went ahead what with the sards around and all.

Our interclub went ahead yesterday, moderate swells and a fairly tricky launch all 13 boats launched safely. We gave an extra hour to lines up so the guys managed to fish from 7.30am to 15.00. The sards were around inshore but none of the boats caught gamefish off the shoals. The boats that did well stayed in the Protea area and Diepgat areas. 4 teams caught 3 species and 1 team caught 4 species with most of the teams getting yellowfin, big bonnies and sarda. In the end the guys had a great day and the finish was very close:

1st Shelly Beach A
2nd Umkomaas
3rd Nomads
4th Durban
5th Shelly Beach Juniors

Biggest fish was a 17,7kg Yellowfin.

It was a great comp with some good fellowship and humour. More than 70 fish were weighed on the day so a good result despite the taxman trying his best.

Shot Mark, looking forward to it...

Headed down to Shelly early yesterday morning with the ski. Weather Gods were on my side and in no time i'd opened my account with a YFT double up. On every troll i then picked up a fish on the new UV Sailfish rappie with the occasional double up and had 8 or 9 fish in no time at all, with 5 boated. All fish caught were between 5-7kg and not a single one lost to the taxman (Marks' heads up the day before had me packing the Tiagras  :hnthnt: )

Decided to then do a bit of chumming which isn't as easy on the ski, got revved by some much bigger fish but lost all 5 to sharks and decided to call it a day as i'd got my fill.

Whilst packing up, the North/South drift was screaming and the next thing the water starts boiling around me. Picked up the Terez which has been on several trips and not been tested... first throw with the Maxrap and BANG i'm on!! Awesome fun on the ski and what an incredible combo with the Stella. Another YFT of about 7kg was boated as it was badly hooked. After that, 2 more casts yielded 2 more fish which were both released.

I then had a bird (gannet?) dive-bomb the irresistible Maxrap and ended up hooking it through the foot and wing... took me a while to get it unhooked but after a while he was safely released to annoy me another day. I saw the bird peck at the line but didn't think to check it and my first cast after that got absolutely smashed with the Stella screaming and the Terez bouncing in my hand for a few minutes before the line parted. Rookie mistake, cost me a decent fish.

Changed to a pink Maxrap and had no luck so changed to a Black Magic popper and picked up another 2 fish before calling it a day.

Cracking day on the water, thinking twice about selling the ski now  duh
