Are all these beautiful  :dor: coming from the FADS? I have heard these FADS are bad things and are responsible for a serious decline in inshore catch of  :dor: as well as serious damage to ships props ?
can someone please tell me what the actual legal situation is re FADS. are they legal ?
I ask because I was reading the reports in the paper about the fish tracker device that was found down south.
there was a comment made in that report that these units are attached to a fad and then it transmits data to the ships.
so...are fads legal in SA waters ?
and if so what are the regs if any for deploying them ?
if not what are the penalties for deploying them ?

As far as I know fads are not legal, but I'm sure there are other members that know the details.....welcome to UA btw Savant, tell us a bit more about yourself.

Fads are illegal, not as far as fishing on them goes, but more as far as they are a hazzard to shipping. The fads we talk about are anchored fads offering shade, and are of a temporary nature.
The fads that were found are drifting fads, with GPS monitoring, incl sonar to check how many fish are in the area, before the big purse seine nets are deployed to wipe out the whole little ecosystem.

For sure they do, looking at that SST Chart the best place to fish  :billf: is going to be on those temperature lines from about 150-400m

Hi Guys I recently downloaded the FishWeather app onto my iphone, quite a cool application. Go check it out it does not give SST info however wave height, temp, wind etc. Have not checked its accuracy however worth a look. Highjack over and out :-)
