Geez, what a time to hit the south coast when the north coast and Durbz is jumping!!!

:cgrts:  To Richard for putting your client onto a  :billf:  and to Mike for landing your first  :billf:  on the boat, awesome stuff chaps!!!

Will post a full report in a few days but had weather restrict us to 3.5 trips out in the 2 weeks but had some good fun nonetheless. Good to catch up with Bwana again and sorry that the weather stopped us from fishing with Isivuba and Zetti.

Will be out on the ski in Durbz next week...

Eish Shaun what a pity the weather hasn't played along down here while you've been here, the dorries have been hit and miss, one or two sailies taken, some nice tuna on the southern pinnacle but generally k*k conditions. I believe you need to proceed to the TA thread to make a confession....... :hnthnt:  You can always blame it on the weather  :hehe:

Bwana  :+ cred:  for your advice on a strip bait of squid on a kona, it paid off with a 12kg tuna yesterday. Launched with family later than expected and went out pulling konas, got a pull on a purple and black kona in 85 mtr . Thought was a big fish fought way November weight category and it was the tuna. Very happy to open the log for the year. Put lures out again saw a bow wave moving into my lures from the side. One kona ratchet went then stopped then shotgun went and stopped. Think was saily playing in the spread circled round twice and no joy. Then headed home after 30 min trolling. Launched at 07:00 back at 09:30. Great day

Very nice HD :rck" its always lekka when a plan comes together!! We finally got a good day on the water on Saturday, ended up with two dollies of 8 and 10, about 16kms off Umhlanga. Not too bad as about 36 were caught out of 128 boats that launched and a few boats that travelled to the FAD's came back with 5 or 6 fish each!!  For me it was basically bird hunting - I chased birds for both fish, the one was a huge shoal of small YFT feeding and I got the dollie on the edge.
Mate of mine also got a Black near John Ross yesterday.

Wanted to fish Saturday but Umpa Lumpa had work so decided to go sunday. Only to find out sat he has to work sunday also. Gave Gareth a call sat afternoon and organised for sunday.

Gareth Kieran and myself decided to do a bottom trip down to Toti and Launched 03:45. Once around the corner the NE was blowing hard not what was predicted. Thought all the way to Toti and fight back in the NE was not a good idea so change of plan headed north.

We headed to the barge and got bait pretty quickly. I then headed for the ships. Had a particular ship in mind and new all the boats were going to be heading that way. The sea had a nasty chop now with the NE blowing and we had a wet trip to get there.

On arrival at the ship i saw another boat had beaten us there and a jetski, they were both trying with lures so i headed for the front and threw out 2 live baits. They were barely in the water and both screemed off. Gareths fish got off and back to the small faithfully coffee grinder and the small stick it was on. I gave the rod to Kieran and he started to fight. The Dorrie did a great display of jumps and ran all over the place. Kieran fought very well but this fish knew what it was doing. It turned itself side on every time and used the waves to take line. Cause more boats were starting to arrive i helped him further so as to get the fish to the boat as quick as possible.

Back to the front again and 2 more live baits. Again both away but both headed for the deep. Gareth and i had a bit of fun trying to keep from getting tangled and managed to boat 2 nice bonnies. Another Drift and another Bonnie.

By this time more boats were arriving and the fish went off the bite. We pulled lures back to the club but had no more pulls.
What a great day off Durban 1 x 8Kg Dorado  2 x 9Kg bonnies and 1 x 7.5Kg bonnie.

Well done guys, great to see some good fish coming out all along the coast!  (clap)

We had a very successful day yesterday on Protea with Shaun on "Mershore." Nice to fish here when all the holidaymakers have left - the base was empty, the sea flat and the launch as easy as it gets.

Failed to find fish at Sheppy Brick where a few yellowtail have been around the past few days, despite clean blue water and good current. We moved to Protea and found non-stop action on the southern pinnacle. We finished with 15 tuna (released 9), a bigeye kingie, bonnies on spoon and jig as well as two absolute BUS kakaap. Shaun's went on to weigh 8.8kg and mine tipped the scale at 9.3kg - a new PB for me on 10kg line and a beautiful specimen. Not a bad chow either. Very good to see the tuna stocks on Protea so healthy - loads of small to medium fish around and a few screamers in between!

Got down to Umzumbe on the 27th and had to abort our plans to fish with Zetti, Bwana and Isivuba on the 28th as the sea had been rather large and the Shelly launch closed for a few days.

Got a gap on the 29th and after a late launch due to our tractor having some issues we managed a few YFT on the rappies before heading back after 2.5 hours on the water.

We then had a late afternoon launch on the 2nd and had some reports that some decent fish had been taken on the northern pinnacle. After a few turns we managed a YFT of about 12kg on the Psycho Charteuse rappie which proved to be a winner over the next 2 trips. Then chummed for a couple hours and managed another YFT of 16kg and dropped another one when the 2 crossed lines and one got burnt off.

The 5th proved to be a pearler of a day and finally gave us the gap to go chase some dorries. We decided to hit the southern pinnacle first and did well both on the rappies and the chum. That gold scad rappie (JohnF's favourite) together with that new pink UV rappie got absolutely klapped. A lot of small fish around but good fun nonetheless, managed to release 6-7, lost another 5 to sharks and boated 9 fish between 5-13kg's.

Highlight of the day was Don get absolutely smoked on Bwana's sosatie stick bait... Unfortunately it was a shark, and after about 30 min I got handed the rod. Put the Black Magic on and made good progress and had him at the boat about another 30 min later. Not sure of the species, but was stoked that we boked him on 30lb gear. Shark was easily 2.2m+...

After that we headed off to chase dorries, found perfect colour lines, water temps, birds, but nada.... not a touch!!!

Did one last trip out on the 6th and dropped a decent wahoo which had picked up a rappie. Sea quickly turned on its head but decided to try chumming and managed 5 YFT all between 8-12kg's.

Not much in the way of species and didn't get to fish as much as we were hoping but always good to be on the water. Good to catch up with Bwana as always, owe much of our success at Shelly to him!!!  :udman:

Well finally got onto the water on Saturday after long few weeks of being hectic at work. Launched at 03h45 (night rating does have its perks) and headed for bait, got mozzies quickly and was at the deep ship off Umdloti at 05h00, pinned a mozzie and threw, 5 seconds and on, got a small Dorrie and thought this is the day of all days. Tried again but nothing, threw plugs between the baits to try get the fish excited but nothing, by this time the boats started to arrive so I moved to another ship but again other boats were there so decided to pull Konas to Umdloti and try for a couta, managed another Dorrie in he bush and had a massive tunny smash the shotgun kona twice (the one Fritz made and gave me) but it missed the hooks on both occasions. Got to Umgloty put out live shad and had one Couta pull but missed both trebles then a shark found us and swam under the boat and wouldn't leave. We up lines set the spread and headed to the 50m mark and headed home. Lot of effort for two fish but it was worth it. To all the other guys who got fish well done. Was great to have fresh fish for dinner again.
A bad days fishing is better than sitting at home moping.
