Wow Umpa...unlucky with the yellow belly.We all got to pay our taxes sometime or the other.Now even more than before at 15%

Atleast you guys still did ok with a few decent fish.

We fished sunday as well.Got a nice yellowfin tuna and a few good bottoms....a nice captain fine,king soldier and soldiers.Some good fish came out this weekend.Conditions where great.

Now need to get me a couta..havent caught one of those in ages.

Took the Kids for a quick trip yesterday as it was school holidays and there seemed to be a gap.
Launched at first light and managed to get some nice bait. Kieran got a nice Tuna on the bait mark.
Did the same drift again and His friend went tight but the hook pulled.

Took the kids to my bottom marks as that was the plan for the day. Managed a few nice bottoms and the kids had a great day.

Shelly Beach Ski Boat Club hosted their annual Interclub Comp over the past weekend. After a fairly sketchy weather forecast both days ended up fishable and the guys got some very decent yellowfin. Not many other species except for one dorado, lots of skippies, a jobfish and a nice 13kg Amber. There were a few bomber tuna caught with the biggest puling the scale to 30.2kg and a few north of 25kg. Overall standings were Umkomaas (1st), ERB (2nd) and ERB (3rd). Was nice to see Denzil, Ant and Kieran there for the comp.

Thanks Mark for a well run comp had a great time.

I fished for Durban blue. Day 1 we headed out to the pinnacles and tried for a tuna but did not have much luck early on.
Moved to deep gat and we hooked up with a very good tuna. We fought the fish for 2hours 15 minutes before the leader broke.
Day 2 we headed straight to Deep gat and chummed. we got a 15.8Kg YFT early. Did 2 more drifts without anymore luck.
Pulled rapalas and the small tuna were everywhere. Could not go wrong only problem none of them made the 6Kg minimum weight.
Moved back and chummed again. We got that lovely Dorado just before lines up so had a good day.

Well done Squire, pity about losing the bomb Tuna on day 1.

This weekend is the annual DSBC

festival, lets see if that elusive

fish will finally be interested in what we present for the two days, 4 years now and we still have not had a fish to take to the scales

. If anybody else is down for the weekend, maybe have a frosty or 3

I decided not to fish the DSBC comp this year.

Looks like you boys should have some decent weather if predictions remain as is.

DSBC comp is always going to be difficult with so many craft in the water.There was close to 700 fisherman and around 240 boats.
Most fish came out Saterday due to a huge westerly that busted thru on Saturday afternoon.
The boats were all spread out on the Saturday but on the Sunday eveyone ran North.
Only 79 fish were weighed.
26.9kg fish was the winner by the guys from Winterton.
As usual big fish were caught before the comp and after the comp.
This last Saturday saw the paddle ski guys get five 28kg couta up north. I think the top 15 guys all had fish over 20kgs.
We did a late launch on Saturday and got some good fish.
Tuna are plentiful at the moment with a wahooo or two also being loaded.
Two weeks ago a 22kg prodical was weighed in at the dsbc interclub.
Now waiting for the Bek.

Thanks for giving some feedback to us blokes here on the Highveld...
It is always interesting to read up on how the Festival played out, pity about the weather, at least some Fish came out.

I travelled down to Moz, "Ponta do Ouro" to be exact, weather also did not play game, only launched twice.
The Couta eluded us, only managed to put 1 in the Boat, lost 2, hooks did not stick...
Couple of Yellowfin Tuna and Oceanic Bonito came out on the charter boats.
Nonetheless, still beats being at graft or stuck up here on the Highveld.

Hopefully someone can post some pic's of the crocodiles caught during the Festival...

Yep as Mark stated fishing was not the best. Think alot of people did not enter as they were worried about how the whole new club structure would play out on the beach etc everyone was expecting chaos, also alot of weather watchers. Surprisingly the launching of boats on both days went quite smoothly, there was 3 tractors and 11 sponsored vehicles from CMH Nissan (apparently the new Mazda was top vehicle), the luck was that the basin was flat both days in the morning. Start of day 1 half the fleet went North the other half South us included as the buster was predicted to hit by 1pm. Bait was the problem, everybody struggled for bait there just was no bait

(this was on both days) but we managed 3 nice Mackerels and FFF said lets go fish before everyone invades the area. Fished between whaling station and Ansteys and after a short while we had our first hook up and i got a

of 9kilo, started the same process and FFF Snr managed a 7 kilo

round three a double up and FFF Jnr got a pickhandle Barracuda +- 3kilo, gave him the other rod and he got a 2nd, all the mackerel and a mozzie paid dividends. These weren't the winning fish or even in the prizes, but

we finally got to take fish to the scales for first time fishing this damn comp in 5 years, unfortunate that was our last bit for the weekend, oh wait Ya a damn 3kilo Catface on a down rigged Sea Pike

. We got a call at 11h15 saying the buster had hit Port Edward, so basically 2hrs and you must be off the water, we called it at twelve after a

took two baits at the same time and relieved us of our traces, safely trailered and enjoying a couple

in the tent, whilst, word had it that guys were kakking off on the beach in tractor queue, boats waiting to beach and guys still heading in from North caught in the buster as it hit Durban at 13h30. One 2 sorry for you .

Sunday the NE was predicted to Puff from about 11h00am, so lines in, 80% fleet went North balance South us included, we decided to try same plan (rule #1 never change your game plan) anyways we blobbed and hit the beach by 12pm again, safely trailered enjoying

letting the die hards who stick it out to last minute fight it out in the wind and sand.

Winning fish was a 26.9kilo Couta, 2nd place 25kilo couta and 3rd place to a Junior with a 20.83kilo couta.
Few Dorries, 2 Bomb tuna plus a few more, 2 Prodigals, some queenies, some nice snoek (one being over 6 kilo), bonnies, some wahoo all weighed over the 2 days, 79 fish in total (all species).

Guess we will try again next year, win or not the atmosphere, sharing that cold one, swapping stories and general k*K praat makes it enjoyable.

DSBC hosted a kiff event, everything was tops, the chow, the staff except the damn fish, if you have not been down to the new temporary club, you missing out, if you had ever been to the old Thirsties (picture that but even better)
