Arrived at the Shelly ski boat club at 6am.
Made our way to Protea banks to get some bonnies,but they didn't play the same game.

So we carried on trolling with some halcos and feathers, 4 rods away and only two anglers on the boat with some quick knitting we boated 3 fish one getting taxed.

Saw a good showing on the southern Pinnacle so we stopped pulled the lures in and did some jigging.
While jigging I saw a guy next to us go vas so I quicky came up and worked a small unda unda ,Vas! Had a lakka fight on the light tackle then taxed! Carried on throwing spoon and unda's having fun with the small tuna (5-6kg)

We managed to boat 5 fish! Sharks were hungry! Then went and hunted some ambers!

Went to a brick found the showing,jigged my arms broken then put down a a big fillet....nothing , we worked the area for a while then called it quits and went back to the reef to find some tuna.

Started chumming got a pull almost instantly and worked this fish!
15min into the fight ,the fish was under the boat.
Then heard a horrible noise POP... My 10kg line broke!

Then headed for home..
Was a lakka day out had some great fun on tbe light setups Bonus!

Fished up at Maphelane over the weekend as part of the Maphelane Trophy competition. As usual great hospitality, amazing food and atmosphere and a great group of people. We had a slow day on Saturday, fairly calm conditions in the morning and then a buster 25 knot NE pushed us around a bit. We got a few pulls early on but the fish were very skelm and none of them stuck. I managed a small dorado on a dead redeye and that was our only weigher for the first day. Three of the teams did well on day 1 with a few nice couta and one big yellowfin weighed. Day 2 was much better and we had a different gameplan. After getting lots of live mozzies we raced down to the Lighthouse pinnacle only to find 6 other boats with the same plan already there. We slow putted our baits around the area for half an hour without a pull, but the current and wind were making it hard to make ground. Some of the boats upped lines and went deep. We chose to stick it out and changed tactics to drift. In the next hour Chris got a nice couta of around 8kg and I got one of 10.8kg on a live mozzie. We dropped one fish and then things went quiet. We finished off at home reef just as the wind turned to SW and the couta turned on - we got another one of 7kg and another dart before lines up. All in all a fun day on the water. Well done to the Richards Bay, Albatross and St Lucia guys who placed top three (well done Rory Mundy on your guys placing).

fished the maphelane trophy this weekend got a nice tuna with a couple of rats then 2 dorados on the saturday. The Sunday we caught a boat load of small yellows sadly non that would make the minuminm weight so they were bombed back but managed to finish second(team albatross) in the comp but seriously need to work on my couta skills

Nice Mark lekker to see some fish coming. Sarel had a bad encounter with a trebble hook of aRappie in his arm but is Ok. Tight lines!

Well done guys! Mark, did you stay at Maphelane? Anyone stay in the cabins? Would like to know what the conditions are like, have they sorted the water problem out?
