Would like to know if anyone else is using this knot ?

I almost use this knot exclusively when fishing edibles and it has never let me down, normally with .45 mainline joining to .65 maxima ultra green

i use it now and then but use the spider hitch with fig 8 , just seems to work for me and the spider hitch is a pretty strong knot, nothing worse than trying to do a bimini in howling wind rain and sand on the beach... especially when fish are on the bite.

Agreed, the bimini is done once on all my setups prior to a fishing trip, if my line parts while fishing, I revert back to spider hitch as well

Maybe we should run some spider hitch tests at the social just to how they shape up against spyker knot and bimini, its been done before and the spider hitch gave us a bit of a surprize..

Learned & used this knot on our Inhaca trip, runs through guides beautifully and never let go during our Marlin fight.

White in the pics is your mainline, green is your leader.

I have also used this knot plenty for freshwater lines, however i use it the other way around, white for mainline and green for leader, same as Kums its never let me down but then i haven't really pulled it real hard.

Old topic I know but interested to know some more thoughts on this knot. Have seen chaps using it on the skis a lot and it seems to hold up nicely.

I have seen both verions i.e. white line being mainline (which is I think how Spyker ties it Reefz?) and white being leader line. My understanding is the thicker line is wrapped around thinner line.

Anyone tested it for breaking %?

Yes, you're right, the white line in the pic is the Mainline, Green = leader. Those pics are Spyker's hands!

I used this knot in the past and have pulled YFT on high drag for over an hour with no breakage, but then I went through a patch where I seemed to make a mistake while making the knot

and it kept breaking when tested, go figure

, so I started using the 7 turn uni to fig 8

Reefs- is this not also one of the "grab" knots that Barry spoke about in his seminar?

Apart from the doubled mainline and the loop - it is almost the same as a Slim Beauty (which uses a fig 8)

It also has similarities with the albright maybe?
