Here's a pic that says it all. A fishing kayak, from Xai-Xai, S Moz. Note the rod+reel (built with local materials) in the rod holder...

The Moz fisherman sure is resourcefull!!!

The one was lying alongside a big gill net, so my guess is that they use it for both transport and to check nets.
