So Quickbite was in Gauteng for a day after being away a month or so and I twisted his arm for a "quick" fly session at Braams Place yesterday.
I assured him that the golden trout was committing suicide on fly and I had the killer fly in my box and promised him a goldie (I WAS LYING), what can I say he's a sucker, sorry let me correct that, he's a "CHOPPIE" as Lichia calls him.
Anyway we get to the venue and the last of the fishermen are leaving with only 1 fish accounted for, at that moment my heat gauge goes up cos we are the only 2 crazy okes left at the dams and then I hear the dreaded question, You got that killer fly right, I pretend I never heard the question and I start talking about the game on the farm and just maybe the water temp is not right.
After tackling up, I hear "Where's that fly you talking bout", so I stall abit and eventually hand over a "white fly", QB looks at this, picks his head up, looks at me and sheepishly says, quote: "IS THIS POEN

FLY IT", to which I replied that it was tied by me and he his free to use 1 of his own, to which he did.
I managed to get 2 rainbows, 1 of which was an absolute slab of note, estimated at least 3kg's, the fish fought hard, pulled deep into the dam and and as QB put it, reefed me. On inspection we find that the fly line was grazed quite badly and broke, yes the fly line.
QB also got into a decent rainbow which after a 5min strong fight straightened the hook.
Times running out and I get asked every once and awhile, like every 2 minutes "SO WHERE'S THE GOLDIES".......keep fishing I say, chirping me's not gonna get you one.
And alas, fishing deep and slow the unbelievable happens, I go tight, QB shouts its a goldie, my first.
I tell QB, put that fly down boy, he pinches a slit shot on his tippet, does the cast, waits 2 minutes, and starts to strip, AND BAM he's tight, another goldie, a first for him as well.
Huge sigh of relief from me, high 5's all round, we got what we came for, another epic day with my good friend "choppie".
