Sounds like you need something stronger than cigarettes to calm you down after this trip  :hehe: :hehe: :hehe:

Snoring. Fish2DVD & I decided to poke the other if he snored.
So there we were, I poke him, he pokes me, I poke him, he pokes me. Hardly slept at all on Sat night. Which is probably why WK slept badly on Sat night altough he snored (a little) as well.

First cast at brazen and I gooi one over Reefz  duh  ....thought he was going to send me to swim out and inspect his line! I felt so bad I think I actually would have.
Roll on day 2 and there is me trying to get used to my new rod and bionic finger. Poor old Reefz was stuck next to me and spent more time dropping his rod to let me untangle it than he did fishing. sry

Ya that first cast of yours burnt through your 1.6mm leader, when I pulled my line in... wasn't much left of it after that! Ended up respooling my reel!  :rotfl Part of the joys of fishing!
You did great with your new setup Brad, now all you need is that compass Fritz suggested!
Was a pity about that fish you hooked into though... seemed to be a good one.

WK - the more I read this thread the more I think that your best option next time is to stick with the more genteel trout fishermen! These R&S heavies are a tough bunch! But is all sounded like fun anyway

It was great meeting up with all u guys. Really enjoyed myself. I'm sure that the next time we meet it would be even more fun & fish.
Only wish u guys lived much closer to the coast, so we all can make more fishing trips together.

Sunday 31 July 2011, 4am. It was pitch dark with only the sound of breakers on the rocks , a chill in the air and the bright Milky Way on offer to the human senses.

Fritz with his bakkie and some of the other guys were somewhere ahead of us as Reefz’s Jeep eased its way up the hill through trenches and over boulders in what was once a road.
Reefz and Mike Pike in the front, WK and I on the back seats and Must-Byte bundled into the back between the rods and tackle bags.
At the top of the hill Reefz stopped the Jeep. The head lamps illuminated a tunnel through the trees and bushes. Below the trees was a soggy, wet, clay donga the width of the car and at some places 600mm or more deep. Slight down-hill.
Dead silence in the car for a few moments. About 50 meters ahead we could see the head lamps of the occupants of Fritz’s bakkie.
“Are we going to make it?” dared Mike Pike.
A few more moments of silence and Reefz replied “We’ll just have to plow through it! Hold on” He flattened the pedal and the Jeep and trailer lunged forward.
We struck the clay at speed and slid left, right, left, right, making progress. The trailer  also slid similarly and bounced up and down, the hitch creaking and moaning as the trailer held on for dear life.
Now the donga became two trenches about 300 to 400 mm deep. Soppy clay trenches.
When we stopped next to the bakkie, Mike Pike said softly after a few moments of silence: “ Well driven”
I could not agree more.

At about 11am Fritz had to sacrifice precious time to take Fish2DVD and I back to the cottage so we could head back home. Thanks again Fritz.

This slippery clay “road” was now on a slight incline and Fitz hit it at a breathtaking speed. The bakkie made progress for about 10 meters but then slid sideways and we ended up diagonally across the two trenches. The wheels spinning and screaming against the grip of the mud but to no avail. My heart sank.
Fritz shut the engine off and got out of the car. The left rear wheel was on its axle in the mud. Not saying a word and calmly Fritz walked around the bakkie, assessing the predicament. We started cutting palm fronts – although I knew that would not help much in this situation.
Fritz again walked silently around the bakkie.
“We need traction on the right rear wheel. You guys get on the back and stand over the wheel.”
As he revved the engine, we started jumping up and down and inch by inch the bakkie started moving forward, easing us out of the mess.

Unfortunately this incident caused a big dent in the left rear fender. I feel terribly guilty about that.
Fritz stayed calm, objectively assessed the situation and trough this attitude saved he day.
Much respect for you Fritz!!!
