Shag are you an ex "poacher"
I come from a line of scottish poachers...my great uncle, and grandfather were known to the local police and bailiffs(my other great uncle was a river warden on the tweed). We have some photographs of the baths at home being full of scottish salmon waiting for the hotels to come and buy it!!

My Grandad should me how to make the roe paste and how to use when I was about 4-5 years old so in essence yip I am a reformed poacher  :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

I reckon Salmon roe would cost abomb if you could find it in SA!

Who can honestly say that thye have never poached? And I mean using bait, lures or methods where not permitted, taking too many or undersized fish, fishing where you are not allowed to etc....any fishing where you KNOW its wrong

so, who can honestly raise their hands and say they are innocent!!!!!

(note: Lie detector tests WILL be applied to all claims of innocence!

I fished in areas where I was not allowed to an i have also used "unconventional" methods to catch trout, never kept any undersize fish though...

NO LIE DETECTOR TEST REQUIRED!

But what were the unconventional methods used?

:hehe: thanks Ziggy...

At one stage when the fishing was tough I would put a bit of sausage on a buzzer or nymph and fish it under a strike indicator... And I have caught 4 trout on spinning tackle with a barbles single hook effzet spinner...  sry

Maybe we should make a separate thread for this - call it something like "poaching confessions" or Poahers support group" or "confession cubicle for poachers"

What do you think?

Depends on the Still Water species.
For SM in Sterkies it would be :
Beetle pattern
Hopper
Beetle Pattern
# 14 - 16 Flashback PTN
DDD
and as a backup

a Beetle pattern.

For a "Dead pool" on a small trib of the Vaal,

Spietkop
Beetle pattern
Red Eyed Damsel
Klnkhammer
PTN
AN Other ( probably a Klinkhammer )
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

A black woolly bugger (or tied with peacock herl), generally with some blue flash. Seriously, and no offence intended.....

Guys, I own a trout hatchery, (don't fish for trout tho) so if you know of any dams that need stocking close to Underberg, EG, etc please let me know. We have about 40 000 rainbow babies and 5000 browns - they should be stocking size (6") by March 2012.  I do have quite a few clients in these areas, but its always useful to have contacts in syndicates, etc.
