What line for big eds fishing?

Hi Guys,
 
I'm looking for some advice and opinions. What line (manufacturer and size) do you reckon is the best for edible fishing and specifically sliding livies for eds like Garrick, Kob and the odd Kingfish?
 
I just had a VERY bad experience with Double X but in hind sight it could have been that my line was just a bit too light for the Garricks I was targeting.
 
Something to consider is that I won't target big in-eds with the same rig so going 0.55mm I think is a bit too much. Was thinking 0.47mm or 0.50mm but I wan't the thinnest yet strongest line to still maximize my casting distance?

I would suggest .45 or .47 (not much of a difference, LOL) Double x.

I personally have used .40 and slid a live shad for Garrick, and picked up a small one of about 4-5 kgs, the thin line worked fine for me.

I heard so many good things about Double X and after loosing two trophy fish in two days I'm all of a sudden very scared to use it again.
 
What about Siglon or Sufix Xcelon? ... I think you get the Sufix Xcelon in a 40lb 0.50mm?

I use the .55 suffix for my eds due the fact that I mainly go for Mr Cracker. Sounds as though you just gonna go off the surf and not rocks and then I would also go lighter, maybe even .45. I've never had any problems with my suffix which I use, so I'll stick to that until it really let's me down.

I grew up using mainly Double X and Maxima, great lines.
The new Seagrand and ISO Fluorine are my current lines and are awesome.
Seagrand, being yellow and ISO Fluorine a clear line.

Is Seagrand and Awa-Shima lines the same thing or am I a bit confussed?

Been using Awa-Shima Seagrand 0.52 and 0.57 for the last year now. Absolute awesome line. Everywhere I fish the guys see this neon yellow line and start chirping until they must break the line and feel the stretch and abrassion, then they all go what the heck what line is this??

What diam would you guys recommend for large eds fishing? Somewhere between 0.47mm and 0.52mm? Do they have a 0.47mm or 0.50mm and what's the spec on it wrt breaking strain?

If you're fishing off the beach, I wouldn't go higher than 0.45 - that would be my max, probably even smaller, o.40 or even 0.35.

But off the bricks, 0.45-0.5 is better.
Just remember that the larger your line diameter, the less edible bites you will generally get.

I suppose a mix between beach and bricks ... at places like Port Edward it's off Splash (bricks) and places like Vidal or Mapelane it's off the beach.
 
So general consensus seems to be probably about a 0.47mm should be best ... so far I've had a look at the Sufix Xcelon 0.50mm line which is rated 40lb/18.1kg. I've seen this line in action and it looks pretty durable. Has anyone else had any experience with it?
 
Now I need to go and look at the SeaGrand line. Is it available in any other colour other than VERY yellow? and do you get it in 0.47mm?

Sufix Xcelon is a solid line - nothing wrong with it... I know Mike Pike has used it for yonks now and swears by it. The last I heard was that the KFGA was coming out of the Sufix factory (may be wrong?) just much cheaper...

Jakes, the Sufix Xcelon in the tangerine colour is really good stuff i'm using it on all my light to medium set ups , the .40 and .45  and the Seagrand .55 and .50 on the heavier stuff, Xcelon did/does make a line called Xcelon XL which is awesome line ,very strong and abrasive resistant, but i have'nt seen it on the shelves for a while, also got some .40 / .45 ISO Flourine from Andriesh and will try it soon , Kumz swears by the stuff which is a good indication that its quality line as well.

For big edibles I would go for .47 XX hi abrasion green... Had lots of success with that line, has never let me down... Touch wood  :sml:

Have always used double x but recently lost 2 good size sharks on the 0.55 brand new spool! was the 1st cast on the one reel and 5th or so on the other wasnt even pulling the fish hard and the line was just popping  wasnt even straight sticking at the time!!!!
 
have since used seagrand and cannot fault it yet..
 
I hate kfga will never ever use it again!
 
the best is probably seagrand or suffix i havent personally used suffix in a while but alot of the guys i fish with do and love it so it must work!
 
i would use 0.45 for big eds but normally use 0.36 or 0.40.

By now, i think you have already made your decission on what line to use and what not.

I would advise you to go look further at what did happen.

Breaking kfga 0.45 or 13.6 kg line with your rod in upright position
Is nearly impossible.

Somewhere there was fault, there should be reasons for the fault.

Go look again, i use kfga 0.45 and 0.55. I slide many shad on 0.45 on the beech and it works fine.
You had bad luck, and yes it did cost you two fish.
Look on the bright side. You are on ua, here we give information, assist each other in learning from each other.

0.50 is best, and Double X is excellent line, perhaps there was anothe rrpobelm
