Last year me and the government spent a month in Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia becasue she wanted to see the sights - result....no fishing.

This year, my choice where we go for a month - and green light given for a fishing destination...

I thought of Guatemala/Belize or somewhere in Agentina...but also like the idea of Cuba

I am open to any suggestions provided:
- the fishing does not cost an arm and a leg. So no big time guides and access only with expensive boats, package tours
- More like a "self drive" or 'self organise" option where I am able to go off fishing by myself or with locals - on the beach, next to any water that has good fish
- reasonable accommodation, no 5 star - anything goes provide there is hot water, decent bed, and clean
- things for the government to do when I am fishing (she likes ruins, temples, crafts and massages...my worst stuff!
- nice non-urban natural environment

Not Mexico, Brazil, USA, Alaska, Canada, UK, Aus, SE Asia, Costa Rica, rest of Africa, Virgin Islands...done all those. And not intersted in Western Europe

Any good ideas out there????

I think Tommo would be the best guy to ask. If I can choose any place to go on holiday then I would go to the Cook Islands.

Mexico chasing Rooster fish & other species? Miami or the Keys as cheapish charters can stay in motels for not much and easily accessable fishing?

Dont have any details etc and agreed Tommo would have some valuable input.

Cook islands - I looked at some stuff on the net - seems great but far and expensive to get there...and accomodation is a bit steep

Been to Mexico - caught lots of bone fish there, but it is good value I agree (Yucatan, the Sian Kaan reserve where Acension bay is...beautiful flats)...problem is my wife will force me to tour all those mayan ruins that she missed last time......eats into fishing time!

Florida - I would rather stay home then go the gross USA for the 11th time - my wife is from there so woud have to visit family, cuts into fishing time! I would prefer to stay in Durban and catch blacktail for free......

Maybe south america as cheap loads of different fishing (big rivers, ocean, lakes, amazon)?

South America is certainly an option - but the place is so HUGE...thought of trout in Argentina - or somehing more tropical and at the sea

Knysna - now thats a good idea for a local trip - i have been meaning to do that for a while now!

have a look at some of the islands off west africa like soa tome or principe very good fishing or cape verde.

Seychelles and Comores is hugely priced - but maybe I should see what Maldives might offer...before it disapears due to global warming

Survivor SA is currently on the go there and when i see the pics on tv i dont care what the paticipants are up to, im just eyeing out that awesome water and chain of islands.. :sadd :sadd

another vote for maldives!! My wife and I spent a week there, all food and drinks included, cheaper than the decent lodges in Moz. To top it off, there is an uninhabited island a 10m swim from the island with the lodge where you can fish a point that is full of 10-15 kilo GT's and bluefins! it's an abosultely incredible spot! Free snorkelling trips to different reefs each day and there is a spa on the island for the wife.

We charted their speed boat (also have a gamefishing boat but they only seem to troll for sailfish) which was just over R2K is typically for sight seeing only.. asked the skipper to take us to a reef where they get kingies (jackfish). Half way there we were intercepted by a huge school of GT's busting on the surface. Managed two up to 15 kilos there! Checked a huge manta ray as well!
