I need advise on a trip we are planning
« on: December 21, 2010, 02:19:49 PM »
My father in-law wants to do a trip to St Lucia April next year.  He suggested St Lucia
because they used to do trips there 20 years ago and they loved it.  He wants to go
with the caravan.

Questions:
How are the caravan parks in St Lucia?
How is the fishing?

I would appreciate any suggestions on a good venue keeping in mind he wants
to go with the caravan and where the fishing is good. Also it must me in KZN.

Hey Tony

Is it worthwhile going to Vidal without a boat?
How about using a kayak there?

Definitely! Rock and Surf at Vidal is normally pretty good...  also Mission Rocks nearby great for scratching...
I believe the Paddle ski guys catch big fish there at Vidal!

Vidal is busy through out the year and well known for being nigh on impossible to get into during school holidays unless you have all your ducks in a row when bookings open.
St. lucia has 3 camp sites all run by the parks board and all nice. Out of season you'll just about have the place to yourself, the nicest of the 3 is Sugar loaf which sits as close to the beach and estuary as you can get in St. Lucia its also right next to the St. Lucia ski boat club which is my favoraite hang out as the food and drink are excellent and a reasonable price.

Woerman, camping at St Lucia is also good, but dont think you have such easy access to the beach and good spots like you do at Vidal.

Suppose it will also depend what time of the year you would like to go, but if it is in summer I would opt for Vidal.

Camping/caravan sites are good, electricity, clean ablution facilities (perhaps avoid very busy times), conveniense store, and St Lucia is only a 30 minutes scenic drive away for replenishments.

I felt much safer camping and fishing at Vidal than most other venues, including Kosi, Sodwana, Tugela.

Sodwana is also an option and offers good fishing in front of Mseni Lodge, but walking back to the camp over the dune is a major schlep and I dont think good for us "senior citizens". Dont know how fit your dad is.

The monkeys at Vidal are just a serious problem - much worse than Sodwana. Forget a "Cattie" and take with a seriously pumped-up paintball gun.

Hopefully I will be back at Vidal early in the new year.

We are going to stay at the Sugarloaf caravan park

What will the fishing be like in April?
