Sometimes several days just to get to the fishing spot in the middle of the ocean, they can go as far as 450 miles on those trips, that's why they call it the long range fleet and that is the smallest boat of the "long range fleet"

Just out of interest (and specifically @Tunaman), last week a bunch of spearo's and scientists left East London to go to the Walther's banks for a scouting trip of two weeks. Can't wait to hear what they find.

I would have loved to be on that ship! Was telling my wif last week about it and how that is the type of things I'd like to do! Man can't wait to retire!

It is incredible to think that a number of years back it was a pipe dream and now there are trips out there. The guys are going to come back with some stories for sure. Please please keep me posted.

@Bennie... very recent events in my life has proven to me that retirement might be to far away and that we have to chip away at it right now while we can. Always keep a good balance but use the opportunities right now. Do not wait bud.

Quite a fish FA. However you have some of the facts wrong. It was caught on baited hook with whole sardine and the rod was a cheap blank that he wrapped himself.

Awesome fish however and probable proof again on your theory re the pirates. How else will a 33 year old record suddenly tumble. They also caught 2 specimens over 300 pounds on the trip.

Stop complaining bud, when I got the news details were sketchy as the fish had just been caught and I shared what info I had at hand, by the time you saw things there was much more info added.
