Essential tools to have on your boat!?

Which tools one should not leave port without? Talking about a small toolbox for boats up to 23-24 ft.

The really, really essential stuff...

Hi JohnF

Pliers,flat screwdriver,star screwdriver,shiftinng spanner, nr10,12 and 13 spanners plus your motor tool kit. In addition a side cutter and insulation tape along with some Q20 and some cable ties.

Hydrualic steering oil is also something to keep on board(in a Energade bottle as to fill your steering easily), as I had to use it once or twice in the past as a result of leaks on the steering pipe joints.

i got a big bolt cutter - does a Mustard sea demon hook , got a chaingang in my arm dont use chaingangs any more either .

If single outboard and single battery a jump start battery.


Some 12v electrical wire, I had a fire aboard my old boat and managed to stop it and then quickly rewired my essencials allowing me to keep fishing.

kwik start amazing what ether can do sprayed into carbs  !! esp if boats been standing awhile

Torch and check that you have some Nut drivers. They work better in a bobbing sea than a spanner that keeps dropping into the cowling. A Bit%^&h to get out.

Quick start is not necessary if you service your engines properly.

2 Strokes spare set of plugs. I change mine every 50 Hours and you never have starting issues and consumption is allways optimum.

A length of spare fuel pipe and some normal binding wire might come in handy. Spare spark plugs, handcleaner and some old rags for cleaning spilled fluids and grease.

A lighter and a spare pack of smokes in the capsize bottle. No better yet, two lighters. As a smoker I hate when I can't have my drug. A lighter makes a handy bottle opener too :)
