Wanie, people are not always willing to give answers without actually knowing what they are talking about. If you want people to answer a question as if they know what they are talking about facebook is the place....
In all honesty i've caught some in Western Cape, mostly by accident fishing for something else.
Firstly where are you going is it tilapia area, is it the little ones with the black dot on the gills "sonvis", or the bigger blue ones or even the imported Moz ones that grow really big and are in some of the farm dams.
The bigger ones will attack small lures like curly tails, spinners etc in the farm dams. Even the small sonvissies will hit a lure when they are nesting not to eat it but to chase it away.
For bank angling a nice bread dough will do... my son caught a really big one in one of the dams u are not allowed to fish in the northern suburbs under a float with a piece of white bread. Also a nice earth worm will work... As you can see the baits i have caught them on are all baits that will get you barble, bass and carp. They do tend to grab the more natural flavourles baits than the smelly ones.... you could try a "eier degie", where you make a dough and add 2 egg yellows into it with less water than normal... U need to keep this cool tho for obvious reasons. They also tend to take softer baits easier. If there is lots of grass perhaps a plain floatie on one hook and a dough on the other.
