Hey there fellow fishing enthusiasts!
I've been lucky enough to spend countless hours on the serene waters of Plett during the warm December and January months when the game fish are in full swing.
Let me tell you, the fishing has been absolutely incredible these past few years! Picture rugby field-sized schools of bonnies and some mind-blowing garrick catches on light tackle. It's safe to say I've become completely addicted to fishing, borderline obsessive!
But here's the thing: I can't stop thinking about my next fishing trip and now, I've got this idea (or maybe it's just a brainfart) to target something bigger, angrier, and stronger than bonnies. I've set my sights on Yellowtail and Yellowfin Tuna that occasionally grace the bay. So, I'm turning to you awesome folks for some advice on tackle and the best spots to chase after these incredible fish.
Now, let's talk gear. I've got a couple of TLD 25's and 30's collecting dust, and I'm looking to pair them with some heavier rods. I've been checking out the Shimano Vengeance Standup and the Assassin Leviathan trolling rods. Do any of you have experience with these rods, or perhaps you can suggest some other options that can handle the challenge? I'm all ears for your advice and alternatives!
By the way, check out this image I've attached. It shows a great looking structure about 7km off Robberg point. There's a nice drop-off from 35m to 85m, and from what I can tell, it seems like the perfect spot for these fish, given good weather and a sprinkle of luck. Have any of you fished around there? Can I count on this spot to deliver the goods?
Please don't be shy to tell me if I am being dof for wanting to target these fish here, but I am looking for the next challenge.
I can't wait to hear your thoughts and recommendations. Here's to tight lines, unforgettable experiences, and epic fishing stories!
