ure fishing from the shore, Cape Town area?

Hey Guys,

Will spend a good few days per month, each month in CT area this year.

With regret, I am not doing bait fishing, nor deep sea fishing, bloody terrible sea sick 🤮.

The only way I can fish is , only lure & casting & spinning  from the shore, rocks, beach etc, with my foots on the ground (no sea sick then )


So, is there such a thing possible? Should I bother to bring my few rods reals as light, medium, heavy setups, and much more lures?

Or everything is about bait or deep sea fishing i CT and surrounding area?

Please enlighten me, every info is much appreciated.

Regarding fish species I am pretty flexible there , my preferred fish is the fish willing to attack my lures.

Regarding casting distance I can cast, or I think I can cast 50,60,70 meters consistently depending of setup, lure type.

Few times on the lawn in controlled conditions I managed some how 100+- meters, but not on the water, there is always wind, or just rush and greed for another cast which limited my distance...ok this is for another topic

If there is similar lure angler like me, please contact me, so we can establish anti sea sick division, by casting from the firm ground

The shore guys will be able to give more detail but Rooikrans at Cape Point for yellowtail (this deserves a search on its own......) the railway line at Simonstown when tail are around and the area between Strand pavilion and Harmony pier. The latter in summer, early morning pushing tide, leeries and elf.


Personally I would dramamine the crap out of myself just to experience a decent yellowfin!

Tuna is currently about 10Nm from the point and by Saturday should be even closer. Take the meds and go for tuna. Its worth it
Otherwise travelmember just about summed up lure fishing in the Cape.

All I can add is to try Sandvlei for leervis/garrick

Fishing deep sea while vomiting, no other way.
And you are right, that passion for Yellowtail must be stronger than sea sick...
Just need to find a boat where I can lay down flat, from time to time, and that's it.

Any advice from personal experience regarding best medicine which can stop or just slow down sea sick symptoms?

Head , up,coast a lil.
Struisbaai , you have a few options .
Breede, and gouritz rivers you can fish from the side ,with a fair amount of succes .


But as to said , cpt , not really the holy grail of spinning .

Regarding seasickness .


Dress warm , wear your jacket even it’s the,forecast are a warm summers days .
Don’t go , swinging from the rafters , in the pub the night before ...
I have seen charters behaving like cowboys , that centiwnly are not conducive to your montion sickness .
If all else fails , remember , puke down wind

Take STUGERON (Cinnarizine) for Sea Sickness.

Take 25mg 2 hours before launch.

I normally have a full breakfast eggs, toast, juice, coffee when we go out to sea. Cant say that it makes me sick. However I think its dairy. I dont drink milk.

Take a Stugeron the night before and 2 hours before launching. Most people pop one just before launching which is too late. It wont have kicked in before the seasickness kicks in

You've been a good lad the night before and not broken any chandeliers, taken a stug and then popped another 2 hours before launch, now you're out on the water... Stay standing for as much time as possible. If you have to retie terminals, try to do it while looking up and forward, not hunched down and staring at your feet. And if you start to feel queasy, keep your eyes fixed on the horizon for as long as possible. Hope you get your arms stretched.


Ps: If there's anyone on the boat with stinky bait, throw them and the bait overboard... Sorted.

Blinkers, I'm gonna fish the Strand reefs Dec 29 to Jan 5th... with dropshot and spoons for kob and shad. I think it'll workout but will be wet for sure I think.
