Hey bud.

There are a lot of posts on traces and set ups already.
maybe you need to narrow it down as to what you want to target..

By backline , the first thing that comes to mind is snoek.
Have a look in traces posts and have a plan before you head out there as you could be driving in circles not knowing what you want.

Bud,
Fishing has been dismal and there is very few reports of fish at the moment. I would really consider going scratching right now. Get a spot, put pick and set your trap sticks out with livies and hope for a Tuna to come past. Or even a Dolly, who knows! The snoek seem to have disappeared and this is the worst time of the year, between seasons.

•   Hook should be thin gauge for better hook sets.
•   Leave a short tag end of the #5 wire bite trace to secure the fillet over. Bait can be secured with cotton at this point only.
•   Albright knot onto fluorocarbon is less visible. The power swivel is kept further away from the bite trace in aid of more strikes.
•   Duster colours in order of priority: pearl, pink, chartreuse
•   Make sure the bait is thin and streamlined to prevent spinning. The hook should rest loose alongside the very end of the fillet. Do not let the bait extend past the hook as this could result in missed strikes.

Will be doing more traces for snoek fishing and back line fishing soon.... hope this help you....

Eric - would it be possible to post a bigger picture of this rig?
Even enlarged I can not read the headings.
Thanks Mate

Dorado, I heard of 2 Dorado. It is too early but if the water temp is good, there is a possibility!

Shaheen the best thing to do right now is target Yellowfin Tuna & Kawakawa. There are HUGE Kawakawa around now.

Run a 4 or 6 lure spread with Rapalas and feathers in the shallow areas from Backline to 30m

slmz,we've been backline fishing recently to try for snoek near blue lagoon but there's nothing, lots of undersize shad . on the bottom few small blacktail and those small salmon around vetchies. if possible to go out a little further to the shallower reefs, then you may get better results. otherwise trawl as FA suggested you ll prob get better results. he gets the results! :fshie

Best to be trawled for snoek, just like shown.
shaheen, did two presentation trawling for snoek, best for back line in the bait & traces section.... Just  a word of warning, if you going to do trawling on the back line with a boat just be careful of the swells and waves just keep your eyes on the water.

Guys the snoek are there, this is the time where you have to work hard for them.... On Saturday we got a snoek and 4 small couta which were release, the snoek we kept..... and there was another boat also got 3 couta and a snoek. We were testing a boat my mate bought.

I saw a chap on Friday morning "beach" at Blue lagoon on a fishing ski.
He offloaded 13 snoek!!!!
5-6kg

Goes to show two things ...
1) there are snoek around
2) there is still a sense of stupidity around!!
  :dunno: :dunno: :dunno: swr swr

Saturday, the odd snoek came out but many chaps blanked.
