Has anybody heard about the new fees? Its insane

If they introduce this, it will really be a sad state of affairs for people that really do depend on guys coming to fish. I know for example that the place we stay at on Inhaca is running at a extremely low occupancy (10-15%) and that between 3 Boats we spend a lot of time there and the 5 workers are so grateful and appreciate our business! This is a very small and isolated situation and it is like this the whole way up the coast. The tourism sector in Mozambique is in dire straits and this I am afraid to think will "put the nail in the coffin" to pay R800 for a fishing license for a week is just ludicrous!! How will a Charter Operator be able to now ask for example 4 Clients to pay a Extra R1600 a day for fishing? This is really not well thought out and I hope the Maputo based guys can assist and perhaps speak to influential people!

R1260.00 for a monthly licence.? The Racetech jetski comp has around 120 anglers, Iwonder how many will say no thanks. Maybe it's time for the Parks Board to wake up and smell the money if the had it at Vidal.Dumbasses

I heard it still needs to be approved? But its ridiculous! Almost like what happened in Namibia a year or so ago.

Im pretty certain it would seal the deal on the Guinjata Comp and Inhaca Challenge, They are already battling to get full fields in these comps and this would surely break the camels back as they say, the Guinjata Comp already has had huge issues woth the local Chief and a lot of people arent Happy with his ways. Inhaca Comp has reduced in size drastically and to be honest after attending the last one, i cant see that many people going when they have to cough up drastically more for Licenses etc... it would be interesting to hear what the UA chaps based in Maputo think..... Did Namibia go through with their plan?

Would also like to here from the Maputo guys. The locals fishing community in Nam as well as south Africa made it a big thing and it got tossed out. was also something like 1500% increase in fees.

- I call this greedy !!!! - rather stupid !!! Moz will dip out for sure !!! OK, lets wait it's up for debate first, now it depends on the Local / Expat - Tourism - Fishing - Spearo - Lodge operators and owners. Trying to recover the "hidden debt" ....LOL.

Consider this, lets say 5 families embark on a holiday to Moz, 3 or 4 members per family fish & spearfish, do the math? Do you really think people will fork out these amounts? Certainly not. As mentioned, what about fishing / spearfishing comps - Moz already scores just from the people taking part - lodging - eating out - drinking 2M etc..

I doubt it very much that the proposal will go thru...

we haven't heard anything about price increase on the licences

Hi Peterplace, I myself have been in contact with a Gentleman involved in the freshwater scene around Tete and Zambezi. If you would like, PM me your email address and I can email you all the official documents from the Fisheries department. It appears that very very few people are aware of this and it will effect everyone in the end. I have passed on all the documentation to our Club as well. It appears that if it is not opposed, it could be implemented withing the next couple Months at most. Regards Charles

So what is a "fishing trophy table", a "capture password" and a "2nd rate"?

Did you guys read this? What language is it ? LOL or where is the addendum explaining what these terms mean as they do not make too much sense at face value..Regarding competitions, mostly locals or saffa's taking part? Madness..All the while the Chinese are emptying their sea?!

Pedro, I am not sure if you are on Facebook? However the proposed increase has been mentioned on all or most Moz FB pages, and yes it's NOT a Red Herring, as I said in my reply, it's a proposal at this stage. However it's rather absurd. From what I have gathered on the Facebook pages, there's will be people (local + expats) taking the matter up with the powers to be..... TIA

Contact the Guinjata comp organisers for an opinion on what transpired this year with the local "officials"... Was incredible how little assistance was offered by anyone. Seems everyone wants a piece of the pie or are too afraid to get involved to stop the rot.

Let's wait to see what happens with the proposed price increase. Reports out of Inhaca seem to indicate that the Chinese have already impacted that fishery.

I'll be off to Inanda with my Stella 20000 to take on those bass...

The chinese not going to stop anytime soon..the African states do not seem too concerned that their fisheries are collapsing..The Chinese Authorities do not seem to like the bad publicity, and do take action and revoke licenses and subsidies when a nation complains about a fishing company but the countries being affected are not doing much as far as complaining to China as china brings them investment and money.Eish..Mozam, the same, the chinese there as they built the roads and got invited in..they are not even illegal most the time, was in the news 2 weeks ago that the guys in charge of Mozam saying how their fisheries are being pillaged and people are going hungry and this must stop..But charging the tourist fishermen who bring much needed dollars in and do not affect stocks is the wrong strategy, stop the chinese first!

Bit of a read..and a bit depressing..but ja it is not like anyone does not know what is going on..The chinese government paid for the building of most of those ships and they pay the fuel bills which make it possible to sail out to Mozam or Senegal etc..and go pillage..otherwise it would not be economically viable..They collapsed their fisheries in the 80's and instead of rebuilding them, they just travel abroad and go rather collapse everyone elses.. as it is easier..Sure the license fees and the pillage of their seas go hand in hand...but unintended consequences and all. Not the right way to go about it, now instead of hungry locals with a few dollars which is the current situation, they will have hungry locals who are broke. The real issue is what is making everyone go hungry, which is the Chinese.

Please help me here. This fees are still only a proposal so at the moment the old rates still apply correct. A friend of mine in Moz wants to go fisihing this weekend so he asked me to find out for him.
