Haven't heard of a cob in a long time, nevermind a big one and I've dropped quite a few livies into the cob holes over the last few years, all I have ever gotten on a lekker cobbait is sharks..but my ear is not on the ground. There will be gulley sharks to stretch your arms on a live strepie, some are very big and will try knit you all over the place so use heavy gear and leader not too heavy so that it can be broken by the fish if stuck..Blacktail, shad, gallies (but they have eluded me there) and cracker etc..usual suspects. Got a cracker this week on fourth day of trying so..they are around but fishing is not easy there by any means. Release the large fish please. Much easier fishing though up the coast closer to you and down the coast to be honest, take lots of sinkers/chainlinks/sparkplugs as the reefs there are hungry and the fish not as plentiful as one would think with the reserve being right around the corner. Nylon grapnels and short hook snoods help there to not get stuck as much as those rocks are just beyond sharp and hungry, from the sandstone to the shale there are few places where you are not going to get stuck on every cast..As mentioned I have more productive fishing up and down the drag from this stretch, more cracker in many spots closer to you, so if you get a mase cracker of which are still around, put em back please..
Dirt road also not in good condition so take your all supplies with you so you don't have to do too many runs to the shops, although DO visit Danie the butcher in over the hill in the town on the R62 for the best meat you can find anywhere in SA. There is something to be said for a thick Tbone from a fat jersey or jersey/nguni hybrid that eats grass and roams pastures all day long with the dairy herds, and then dispatched correctly and hung properly etc.. I have not found anything close to that deep rich maroon meat, yellow fat and marbling, yet. You will never look at feedlot "grainfed" beef the same again. I get my meat there when I visit, stock up, get them to vackpak and freeze to take home.. I just cannot find anything close in the cities..
Anyway..there bait is the usual..You can sit all day long soaking a crab and not get a touch, or sometimes it just takes a minute..most times you'll sit all day long..I've had good luck there on blackmussel and redbait. Livebaits also don't last too long before getting nailed by the resident reef and gulley sharks. Have some pillies with for the shad. Look close in the flooded gulleys for them at high tides. Please pick up your trash and the others left there..Some who fish there leave the place in a state afterwards..
