For sure, they have been spotted inside the camp many times. This one was just outside the staff quarters as you approach Vidal camp

I fished Mission's on Saturday night and saw "big cat" tracks in the sand whilst walking to 1st Bats. Couldn't get the feeling of being watched out of my head.

Can you imagine that spot in a year or 2, once the nursery has re-established again!?! With the heavy ParksBoard presence at Maphelane, it will be back to the glory days! No local subsistence plunder etc etc.

Who can recall the intense criticism of Zaloumis around the methodology and plans of opening the mouth.....I think he has done and is doing an excellent job regenerating the lake

The initial critisism against Zaloumis and Isimangaliso was definitely warranted, they wasted a year and 20 bar on a contractor that was not successful at all.

What you see is a freshwater lake, the system still needs to be connected to the ocean. Once this happens, and the system remains connected, it is going to take many years for the original ecosystem to return. Also bear in mind that the the lake is completely silted up, and choked by invasive reeds. Nowhere deeper than 2 meters.
Isimangaliso and Zaloumis should take all the blame for the total collapse of the system. The mouth should have been kept open by any means possible.
See the shellfish on the lakebed that died off. This pic is from the Kwa Nibela area in the north. People dont grasp the full scope of the eco system loss.

Dont be fooled by Parks board presence at Maphelane. Railway ledges is being plundered on a weekly basis at night by people driving up from Richardsbay. 4 weeks ago I was witness to gill nets being set in the river at Mapelane in broad daylight. The Parksboard officer stood and watched in my presence for 10 minutes and then just drove off without taking any action. Even a police officer from St Lucia by the name of Stanley arrived on the scene, and just drove off without taking action. He told me they had no access to a boat to persue the matter.
Parksboard, as we knew them, is in total shambles.
