Braid to Braid

Hi Harold.

Bob sands is the way to go for me. On another forum they feel the Bob sands gives 100% strength.

I have found that the braid stiched into braid seems to be the best option followed by braid stitch loop to bimini with modified 5

turn cats paw.

For my application of thicker braid leader to thinner braid main line , Bob Sands seems to be the answer with regard to strength

, time and ease.

I don't want to belabor the point but I'm constantly testing new concepts and trying to push the boundaries whenever I can. I have often used the Bob Sands knot but only for a short fluoro leader outside the guides for spinning with braid - never a braid to braid join but you've got me thinking again just when I thought I had it all worked out....


Have a look at this video courtesy of Barry Wareham doing the FG knot - braid to braid. Would be keen to hear how this shapes up against the Bob Sands knot.

I use the FG knot to join my braid to my fluoro and it is my knot of choice.


Barrys method is a little too gymnastic for me but have found that even if you use the link below his FB page, the knot seems to slip with braid to braid

After some practice I have now managed to join mainline braid to braid leader using the FG knot. It seems to be the answer for me>

Hi Guys, Trust you are sitting down and full of Christmas lunch.
As I was sitting  in a semi horizontal position, I got thinking about the perfect braid to braid connection..
I tend to alternate between the Bob Sands and  GT knot.
I decided to try the pr knot but alas no bobbin.
However after watching a few videos and 20 minutes in the garage, I came up with the following.
A perfectly functioning bobbin from an old pen top,2 pieces of wire, 2 floats ,a cotton reel  and some insulation tape.

5 minutes later ... Viola an almost perfect pr knot. which I am unable to break. So if you are bored....

  ... Looks like it should work. Instead of the pen, cut off both ends of an earbud. It has a great thin little tube. I have a similar bobbin that I got from the fly tying guys, but in order to get sufficient tension for a PR knot (my principle reason for a bobbin), I found it necessary to add weight to the cotton spool so I cut a small length of brass rod that fitted perfectly inside. One could just use a piece of 6mm (or so) mild steel round bar or a bolt with the head cut off.


Now go back to having Christmas Patrick

Thanks Fishstyx. I thought about a cotton bud  but with hands as big as mine, I need the width.
I will however try the bolt in the middle of the spool. Many thanks... Now back to the trifle
