Umgazana or Mgazi
« on: March 19, 2015, 12:32:48 PM »
I'm trying to help my brother to find some affordable self catering accommodation in the Umgazana or Mgazi areas. He has left planning a bit late as he wants to travel to the Transkei this Easter holiday.

He is recently divorced (hence the tight budget) and will be travelling with his 2 teenage kids (son & daughter), is keen on all types of angling and just needs a quiet spot to do some family bonding and cast a line occasionally.

We found some suggestions and contact details on that other forum, but all the info seemed dated and numbers did not work.

Could anyone recommend a lodge or cottage with options for river and sea? Contact details would be appreciated.

Thanks

Crankman,

Umngazi has only one option -Umngazi River Bungalows and they about R850 pppn, awesome place and worth the money but definitely not for a tight budget.
At umngazana there is the river lodge which is pretty far (+-15min drive) to the beach, ive never been there so cant offer any advice about it. There are plenty private cottages at umngazana mouth on the river and the beach. I don't think many are for hire to the general public though. check this place out maybe they can help https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mngazana-Cotttage-Mabombas-Place/1599256210295713?ref=ts&fref=ts

Reasonably priced. Especially the fully catered option. Saves you from having to cook.
The cheaper self catering option, but very rustic

They are however under private management, or so I heard, but apparently still a viable option. Hope you come right.

Thanks Sparodon
Mtentu looks like a definite option if they still have space. Will pass on both links to the brother.

Kevf, that cottage also looks perfect. Thanks.

Thanks PH. Great report. My brother drivers an old russian lada 4 x 4, so should manage the roads, everything else sounds perfect.
