I'm fishing :fshn: Oord Nebo on Sunday.  :-)

Anyone keen to join me, :dunno:
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

Apologies for the late report chasps....I know this session was reported on on the other thread but lets get the old Vaal Update thread ticking over. The usual gang of reprobates fished at Strome this Sunday for a little pre season "rust removal". Currently the river is very low and the slower sections are full of rotting vegetation/sludge/detritus which will be with us till the first good rains flush the river. As Herman reported he measured the water temp at 13 deg to start and we finished up at 14.5 deg. The accepted theory is that the yellows will be more active at the magical 18deg but we've had good early season sessions at lower than that in previous seasons anyways. There was a constant caddis hatch from when we got onto the river until we got off, nothing wow or massive, they were just there the whole session. Small goggas. The fish are there and they feeding, Martin and myself found pods of them in the deeper sections, always in the slower water right on the edge/seam of the faster current. Get your flies down and concentrate on your drift and you'll connect with fish. Theres been a lot of coverage in various media about the pollution in the Vaal of late, so if you are going to wade without waders make sure you have a good scrub when you get home.

Firstly where the feck is VT  :dunno: :dunno:

Doc and I took the road to Nebo today. We got on the water around 7:30 ish. Water temp was 17 - 18. Doc thought I hadn't left the thermo in the water long enough,  as the air temp was already 23.

WE crossed over to the reeds on the opposite bank and worked our way up river. After changing very many flies, and a leader or 2 I finally hooked and landed a SM of around 700 grms. Before that Doc was clapping the fish, but I will let him report back with the pics noggal. (clap)

A wonderful day on the Vaal. I hooked 3 and landed 1, Doc hooked 8  and landed 3.

Thanks for a great day Hermann. I had a lot of fish take the Orange hotspot early in the day the first 5 fish all had me palming the spool to try and stop them and having the hooks pull.

I had revert to a green emerger with a orange head after donating a few hotspots to the trees and reeds. Landed a Muddie of about 1.5kg and a Yellow of 1.8kg on it and landed a smaller yellow in the 1kg range on a brown flashback.

The green algae was a pest and you had to clean your flies about every second to third drift.

Hermann took a few great action shots.
