We have been having a few issues on our boat with electrics.
The problem stems from rather poor attention to detail in the manufacture of the boat, but now e need to come up with a a solution as we have had a few failures of wires already.
The boat has underdeck piping from the battery box in the false transom to the CC. Unfortunately, Butt cat cut the pipes off flush witht he deck and the battery box has a hole +_40mm dia level with the deck to "drain into motor well. What needed to drain i dont know.
problem is that lovely salt water keeps filling the pipe, which in turn over a bit of time causes corrosion int he wires and then intermittent electronics then zero electronics. in 2.5yrs had it go twice already. We used silicone wire (think thats what its called) and still goes.
any ideas on how to solve this.
My ideas are try to empty the sleeve by 1/2 unloading the boat then syphoning the water out, then flush with fresh h20. try to dry as best i can.
rewire with new silicone witre, but try to put them all in a thin tube to prevent water getting into contact with the PVC covering. Then silicone the whole lot and the top of the sleeve closed as best i can.
Should i glass up the hole. Do the batteries need a flow of air into the battery box?
next question? will the motor control cables be in danger of corroding having been in contact with sea water for so long? The cables were brand new when installed and no joins etc in the cables. They were a mission to put in due to tight angles in the pipes when made.
ideally, boat should have had the sleeves come up +_100mm. How dot he other builders do it, the guys that have a bit of attention to detail?
Its a problem we have and now need to try to rectify. The boat is 300km away from home so need to plan ebverything before I go there.
