The weekend does actually not , look to bad .

Here from Saturday onwards condisions ion will improve .

Look for colour and livebaits .

It’s an very very good time of the year to fish this side , for the past 4 to 5 , weeks ,here was one really large Kob landed , all over 30 kg , Basicly every week ..

Packs of bronzies these 30 tot 40 kg numbers also around on the plaat .

I can add that It is HARD work to get those Kob! You don`t just step in there and catch them all over. You will have to get the weather right , find the holes the fish hide in and don`t forget you still need the correct bait. This in itself can be a daunting task, as there are just so many places to fish etc. When fishing the Plaat you will have to walk a fair bit! Lenny is the best guy to ask for advise I might add!

What I saw a weekend or so ago (referring to the walking on the Plaat issue) was that Scooters and quadbikes seems to fall outside the "no vehicles allowed on the beach" rules. The one scooter had a small "trailer" with 4 rods and all the gear hooked on it and was driving up and down stopping to fish every now and then. The other Scooter went what looked like all the way to De Mond and later returned (had 2 people on). Then there was a quadbike playing on the beach....

Can someone enlighten me if in fact scooters and quadbikes are allowed on the beach (and are not classified as vehicles)? If this persists then soon it will look like the streets of China on the Plaat!

Don`t know about the freshness, but the little tackle shop next to the OK Grocer had some good looking Sardine etc. Best is to throw net and get live bait.

Beach driving are not allowed , E scooters and automated bikes , here’s a bunch of them , a lot of cape ouens also bring them along , perfectly legal .

The only person that can drive on diet plaat ,are DAFF officals , one other permit holder , driving a bottle green short Pajero , and myself , have valid beach driving permits , because we are physically un able to so .

It’s not easy to obtain these permits. And you need to go see a Goverment Dr , to certify you , they don’t accept any other docs , you will not get a permit , if you have a hip , or knee , or diabetes , you will simply go through all the effort to get declined , they are actually very full of nonsense ....

So every weekend here are a bunch of double cab bakkies , with Ca regs , driving on die plaat , at night , Basicly camping there and leaving a bunch of small fish and goggas , rays and babers on a pile , this is un acceptable , and if anyone reading this are guilty of this behavior , shame on you , your time will come .

What i can add , from experience and the bit of luxury , to be able to move quik from one place to another .

We catch 70 % of our Kobs and goggas , sharks and rays , not further than the paaltjjie parking lot and back to langezant , when the current are hectic , which often happens , from the plaat parking lot the current can be fishable .

The place where you will find the lease current.
Will be at the b bord and langezant , it’s just like every time there are current , none in the area ...

You will have to fish the rising tide , if you want to fish livebaits , not a rule set in stone , but you net your mullet , much much easier on low , as they don’t have place to hide on sand banks , it becomes very very hard on high , beware ....

Weekend does not look to bleak , but I just saw on the news , more of a southerly predicted , as when I checked this morn they predicted SE ftom late arvie , for the next 4 days ...

Thank you Lenny and Vaaliebaasman. Really Appreciate it. One is always learning when it comes to fishing. What app do you use to check the wind?Windguru or windy app?What would you say is perfect fishing conditions for Struisbaai and Aghlus.

I had a look at the Government Gazette regarding beach driving and found the following:

"the use by physically disabled persons of electrically propelled vehicles specifically designed and manufactured for physically disabled persons. Electrically motorised vehicles are substantially less powerful than conventional internal combustion vehicles and therefore less likely to cause significant harm to the coastal zone. Physically disabled and other persons may also use non-motorised vehicles in the coastal zone."

I can`t find any ware where it says that scooters (and they are definitely not electrically powered) are allowed to drive on beaches for abled bodies (able to handle 4 fishing rods at the same time). In my opinion they are driving on the beach illegally! The DAFF personnel are not doing there work and will soon cause a much bigger problem i.e people driving on the beach with their bakkies (like Lenny said). If scooters are allowed on the beach why then not bakkies?

And besides the scooters there was a quadbike also on the beach.

The one scooter was driving at a high speed (low tide....hard sand) at night and only saw us when I put my headlamp on, otherwise he would have crashed into us. They can drive over any animal (or fisherman) that is on the beach at night and they are causing unsafe conditions on the beach. From the Gazette: "The proposed vehicle use must not pose a threat to the safety of the members of the public who wish to use the coastal zone for bathing or other recreational reasons"

I understand that people who are not physically able to access the beach are allowed to drive on it, but now every second person with a scooter or quadbike will drive there.

Just my 2 cents!

Absolutely and completely agree. Just some "poeple" dont care what the law dictates as usual!!

Ja , look if you read that whole gazette , to see , what they define , as motorized , Basicly anything over 49 cc .

Now what I have heard , from some of the owners of these bikes , they are classed all under 49 cc , as agian a gray area , as they drive on the road , without having to go do a roadworthy ....

That alone leaves a gray area , how are they going to prove it ?

It’s like guys that of the 20 hp sticker from their outboard to say it’s a 15horse .

Let’s not go into the drone fishing on die plaat , according to my knowledge , limited knowledge , you can’t drone with in , 10 km radius of an airstrip , so Basicly you can drone on die plaat , but you will have to walk at least 5 to 7 km to be outside , that radius .

Speaking about drones , we have a DAFF drone , that patrols , it’s pretty big and have a red light , we have heard it’s an plotted route from De hoop , to gansbaai . We often see it late eve , and early morning , you can hear it too it’s large ....

The weekend ,

There was loads of guys yesterday on die plaat , club and boland and WP apparently all have events .

It was a mad house on plaat , all over actually , I know of a few Kob 4 to 7 kg range landed , some released , some for the Braai , I heard of a 15 kg Kob also landed by a lucky angler .

Don’t know about , the in Ed’s , but high time , the raggies should , start to hassle us ...
and sandies ....

It’s a windless morn here Sunday morning .
All they guys are out looking for yellowtail .

Tomorrow low is before lunchtime . Sunday also look good .

I really want to , make a cast the weekend .

The plaat will produce Kobs , yesterday some of my clients , landed a small raggie .

But al the ouens , have gone to sea , the firsts sea day in 6 days ...

The first bit of good easterly , finally came through , and we capitalised on some good Kob .
