Thanks tony for sharing . And the trip out .
Weather looks bleak for the rest of the week .

There's some fish around despite the wind and winter crackers and steenbrasse and galjoen .

Plenty of redbait around too .

Lekker report 7/10! Thanks for sharing. Do you perhaps have a pic of the Miss Lucy?

Great report Tony, thanks man.

I'm absolutely gobsmacked at the size of that kob, it would be great to hear further details if they emerge, no doubt landing that one would have been no walk in the park.

It's easy to think fish that size don't exist anymore, wonderful to see they still do.

Lenny, I apologise for not getting in touch over the weekend, it was a hectic weekend with the funeral and family around. I will be back and then we will have that  I promise.

Friday 19.06.2015

After the big west and swell I was reluctant to go out to sea as it was still a bit lumpy but with no wind it started had started to settle. The west should have pushed in the clean water and trapped some of the warmer surface water on the western side of the coast past Suiderstrand. Lenny otped out and I decided not to take my youngest son as I was expecting a bit of a bump which turned out not to be the case. The sea was big at around 3m with a 12s interval but was very manageable. We were in the end 4 up Haasie, Alex (haasies mate), Anton and myself. After a late launch after 8 we greeted Lenny who organised us an Occie and headed out.

We elected to head to Blougaansie to check for the tail of the week before but we got there and only 3 chokka boats remaining and nothing was stiring. We elected to head down to Pieties' se huis but it was deserted so we kept running toward Brandfontein/rietfontein. We found a few commercials around die Gat but nothing exiting was happening. The water was clean and cool 15-16 deg. We threw anchor in the area of abou 30m of water and a few nice silvers came up from the marks, but it was not what we were there for. We eventually moved even deeper as I saw one or two gannets drop in the deeper water and after a few misses and having nothing to show after 13h00 hours was considering heading home for lunch.

I was sounding around in just over 50m of water and found a large piece of baitfish.
We dropped anchor and put in lines. In short order Alex boated a Kob. The several undesize boys were sent back by yours trully and the rest if the crew. We had great fishing and awesome variety including silvers, romans, hotentos, geelbek, pen haaie, smoothies and much more. We eventually boated a few nice Kob and Geelbek for the pan. The bottoms were released to breed another day including a 4kg Roman caught by Anton.

Our take home tally was 3 geelbek and 5 kob and we probably caught about 5 time that and released that agian in undersizes. On the light tackle we had good fun and took time to ensure the released fish went down in good shape. We used squid, occie, sards and mackies and in the end mackies worked the best. 1 or two fish came in on the drop shots too. We really mixed it up and our light stick with yazuris kept us in stock of fresh mackies at regular intervals...

We got into the harbour as the sun went down after the last commercials... It was a great day out and my body is now letting me know it!!
