(clap) Lekker report David

As for the guy with the 12 ft rod and pylie you saw I think it was Darren Kurz. He posted a pic with the Black Ray on FB

Quote from Cameron Johnston: "Darren Kurz battled this 171.5 cm / 165 kg Black Ray for 1 hour and 30 minutes before getting it onto the beach at Struisbaai in the Western Cape, using a grinder setup!"

A link to the photo: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10204008523266879&set=pcb.647004498730339&type=1&theater

I saw these guys well guys wearing those colours around when you posted this Charles .
They were one day fishing die Brood , and another Die rasper , I came past the Rasper , stopped and asked him ' jets gemaak' Short story he was not really talkative ....

Theres some well priced Fresh Tjokka at the Kafe , by the Garage as you come in to Struis ...

Fishing will be good this week , I am planning a session before sunrise , get the Monday started on the right way .

The water seems to be flatting out nicely , so will load the clones and PD too .

I have to step up , this summer , nonsense I stay here , and not get proper proper fish .

Seems the summer systems are making a and appearance , and we hold thumbs for the Yeloow taaaiiillll , to start to eat .

Evening all

Here is a short report from the struisbaai skins. Fishing was tough on saturday general consensus was water was on the cold side. Personally blanked for the first time in struis for a while...fished brandfontein, agulhas and struis reefs...100 klippies and skaamhaaie later. Water looked good temp cold though.

Some fish did come out earlier in the day...a couple of size cracker and some decent galjoen and a belman. Then a few kob. Winning fish...13.5 kgs plaat, live harder...patience was the winner. We moved around a lot scratching all over the place. All the honey holes...nothing.

Guys were rewarding for sitting it out at brandfontein first section on the push.

overall great event. Not really well attended to be honest. Big prizes so it was a pity. Other than that springboks won. Food at club was amazing atmosphere great! Great event...next time pull in you wont be disappointed!

good luck lenny...apparently wind changing will warm up water a bit...hopefully fish come on the bite!

 Cool no problem!

Water was warmer at brandfontein...but a lot cleaner. Didnt see too much weed in the water. Very sandy but we left before water filled up and it was more neap than spring...

Good luck!

Brandfontein is heavily sanded up , needs a nice strong storm or strong sea to open the gullies again .  :-(
Dare to be great..or you never will be.

thanx lenny, will be in struis from next monday till sunday
We ask a simple question and that is all we wish: Are fishermen all liars? Or do only liars fish?

You won't catch every fish you try for, but don't let that discourage you, because the best fisherman who ever lived can't do it either.

Thanks for the updates Lenny.

Was thinking of pulling in this weekend. More of a family trip but with spring tides im sure ill wet a line somewhere...agreed looks like the wind is going to pomp!

Hope the water temp has improved a bit?  Either way a weekend in struis is always a pleasure. Will keep you guys posted should anything happen!

WE GOT WHIPPED PROPERLY !!!!

So myself and 2 other manne , threw the dices and dollosse , and we got the live bait tank up and sorted tackle out .

Wind was and still are pumping , we struggled to get live baits , but found a sweet spot , and quickly loaded up 22 leaker sized mullets .

Spot one / got 3 rods out , the last mullet did hardly land , zzZZzzzzzzzz VASSSS . Donnie tighter up , and poof off .
couple minutes later Zzzzzzzzzzzzz of .

we got 4 pulls at this spot , not one we had on for longer than 5 minutes .

Spot 2 , we moved [ what a mission ]  got stuck in some serious rough terrain , we luckily had a spade , and could get out . lines in again we fished there for about 3 hours and rebaited all three rods between the 3 of us waited waited , for way to long and as we said lets call it a night , zzzzzzzzzzzzz , the rod was in my reach , so grabbed it and felt proper headshakes , made a few shortish runs and I could feel its not a Shark of Flattie [ bloody pests ] well dropped him too , I tried my best to manuver MR into a nice gulley , the cross shore wind didn't help me at all , and I got wrapped up on some shallow rocks .

Being pretty peeved by now , we got out MR sedwicks , just to get some courage and ' regroup' LOL

We moved again feeling , this is it . Donnie took the 10 foot grinder and Paddletail , and worked hims way down to the rocks , Me and Willie had to get some new leaders on , and I had a Black tail that I wanted to slide .

WE just heard Donnie shouting , and the next mo , he grabs a nice Kob of 78cm out of the gulley he in the process took a late night swim LOL
We got the rods out again , with livebaits , and one with a Tjokka , there was plenty Grass in the water and at night its pretty hard to fish between them , we got fouled up by loads of salad , called it a night .

Summer is here , the fish are here .

PS WARNING !!!!!
I know some guys that don't part take in this thread are also some of the guys that drive around in areas they are not allowed to , I know this because I can drive there legally and have the papers to prove it , YES I have a valid beach driving permit . be warned Varswater side they will catch you and will write you a fine of 5 clips . It seems that its mostly Cape town guys thats taking this chances , with stickers from 'other ' forums on their chillers and Cabbies .
Another warning is not to buy any Perlemoen when you are in the area ,because its a trap and they are seeking someone to make an example of . All over they guys are sitting in the hills and bushes watching your every move , they guys are dedicated and even working at night as of late .
I am leaving town tomorrow and will only be back , by Friday morning , can't sit around chewing the fat all day ...

Saterday theres a comp happening good luck for the guys fishing .

Gereral heads up the GALJOEN SEASON IS CLOSED .

(clap) Great stuff Lenny but unfortunate that you could not land the fish. There is nothing that gets the heart rate up like a screaming reel.  :sreel:
