Hi,Lenny,saw your refs to Bus Tail,brings back memories.

Stopped at Struis en route to CT,from PE/Knysna some 20 years back.

We arrived to see most boats just unloading Tail.Couldnt believe my eyes at the sizes of these Tail,all incredibly big,and every boat was full up with Tail.Masses of Bus Tail occupied entire area.

I've caught Tail from Simonstown harbour walls,and saw a lot landed in the area.
But not that many of this calibre as witnessed at Struis.I thought it looked like ideal place with bigger specimens arriving,although I've only been their once,admittedly.

Yellowtail is still

THICK ! 8 to 10 bins Per man today . not young fish like yesterday , bigger one agian . I am on Wednesday night again , building Carbs and Hydrating he hehe .

The bite could hold .

Form the Surf , the water are looking the best it has the past 5 or 6 days , the steady SE wind has been bringing the colour after the SW last week .
On my wya back from the Harbour , I saw two guys spinning with light stuff , and they landed a nice Leerie , pretty amazed to see them there .

Hi Walt .
The Tail around here are better in size and Quality forsure , Alphards are a save haven for them and the Breedes aluivvial [ spelling] are one of the most nutrient rich waters along our coast , hence even with the Rock and Surf thats why the fishing is a bit better here . And dont forget De Hoop .

Strange thing is usually the same sized fish in these long run of Tail , but not this year , Giants one day in large numbers and the next day smaller fish , the big ones are from 10 to 17 kgs now , like today they had a few nice fish in the region of 7 to 12 kgs , but last Saterday we got the real sizers , up to 19 kg's . and 74 bins full of them [ I have to get a Voltaren Shot ] on our the boat I am on .
every boat has got 3 to 5 tons maybe even 6 tons , this has been above average for today , but generally the past 2 weeks , all the boats average from 2 to 3 Tona per boat Per day .
So basicly I can stop explaining and , rubbing salt into the woulds of my Fellow Ua'ers and just say DIE VIS IS DUKKKKKKKK.

We just eating Tail , and also lekker to give a couple away .

I've been meaning to renew contact with Struis,have a throw there,and now I've read your reports,Lenny,I'm sold on the idea even if I don't catch.

Just so cool being witness to place where fish are coming out as its a major confidence booster,and raises the bar on the potential of an area.

I am gonna keep this short and sweet , as theres not much to say .
It was a Perfect Eve last night no wind and well no Fish . LOL

Besides the 2 big Streepies I caught on an Elf Trace , The one I Used for a Fillet bait , nada .
Top bung Niks .
Managed 2 Mullet olong with the rest of the guys , Had 3 Rods out , with livies between the bunch of us , Only Flatties , First Daimond I have seen in a long time , Eagle ray maybe 15 kgs . A smoothie of 5 Kgs . The other guys got bitten of twice , Either Hammers or Big Elf ,both has been around [ First time in many years I have also seen hammerheads around here . ]

So , the weather is nice with very light winds , the right direction too , But the water is clean , and has very small swell , Going on optimism and the Forecast , it should change with in the week still .
I have seen copious amounts of Mullet and Maasbankers in the Harbour . the fish are active and feeding , theres just so much food in the water .

Hi Lenny,funny enough,last week Monday we got 6 small elf and after they moved off,we caught 3 hammers between 4-8kg on the shad traces...told another fisherman about what we caught and he said there's no way that we caught hammers from the beach at Dias...that was close to low-tide too on dropping tide...spring-low(full moon)sorry no pics guys...

crappy phone...I caught the 8kg one,it was lekker cheeky after being hooked...running up & down the drop-off,first left then to the right...

but good fun as the elf went off the bite by then...miss catching YT with my mate in C.T...he was member at Millers point...strong fighters...

Lofty, I once sailed in a regatta from the Mosselbaai harbour to Vleesbaai and back and we saw a lot of Hammers just behind the drop off. If I am not mistaken Jakes also got one last year at "die saal".

Thanks lenny and co for keeping the thread going...interesting story on hammers in struis...I was over there one festive season prob 5-6 years ago and a lighty told me the swemstrand is vol haaie...so I popped down to see the chaos and there was a big shoal of hammers prob all around the 10kg mark cruising in the second breaker in crystal clear water. The crowds were huge...watched them for a while...it was awesome!

On the fishing front lets hope there are some fish around...popping down this weekend and hope to actually have a throw this time!

So a Crewmen on the Comms told me they saw giant shoals of Elf , not to far away from the Harbour , they said they were boiling the size of a Rugby field , So there must be Shark of Tornyne chasing them .

There might be some truth to it , as we got word last night of a giant patch of Pilchards that Beached them selves clos to the light house , at one of my fav surf spots back in the day .
When we got there , i first had to go pick the guys up in Str noord . Missioned down and there was atleast 5 tons . Most of the Commercial Fisherman , loaded in up to 20 bins , they were still green and alive on the rocks . This morning there was still more left and a couple of guys looking for Occies , and Crabs thats been eating the Piltch .

So I am ready for those darm Elf , with the Comms using massive amounts of Bait , good Sardine or any other bait the pike and Tjokka too , you only ger B grade . So Weekendrs be warned , and take precautions .
Wind is UP , Proper SE wind , seems like only Sater Mornig might be a Gap to fish and then agian on Monday , I might go to sea on monday .

Thanks for the comments guys , I have a strong suspision that it was Dolphins that chased them , the Harbour is also Full up with Maasbanker , STeepies ect

Hi gents.

Weather hectic in struis this weekend. Friday big swell water warm. Sat nice colour water cold wind pumping...this morning had a throw because I was staying in langezandt. Only got one small smoothhound. Had a surf around 11. Swell dropped nicely water clean but starting tp get some good foam in places. Saw some nice shoals of harders.. water also warm . So I agree with lenny tomorrow conditions will be great! Ill be at my desk. Good luck!

Tides has been high , and wind strong , in all sort of directions .
There was some Kob and Belman caught during th weekend .
I got a Belman 44cm and A kob 65cm this morning , WE might put in a night session along another area should the wind play along .

Fishing was amazing in Struis the past weekend. 51 anglers competed in the boland league and 4.3tons of fish were landed! Raggies were crazy loose!
