Struisbaai updates and reports .

Hi guys

struisbaai nice today...some fish around. Still reports of belman on the plaat inbetween sandies...which is all I could manage yesterday. Some reports of elf in suiderstrand. Got a nice gallie today. Off to brandfontein tomorrow armed with prawns, moonshine and mussel. Will try get some bloodworm there. Will be trying for steenbras will post anything exciting. Cheers

I actually fish more wit them  than R&S .


The past two weeks has been on /offs regarding fishing the banks ... Cold water has made the large Tail dissapear and the tail are scarce now , younger fish too .


Some geelbek and Tail at night  not WOW quantities but up to 3 bins per man mixed Bek and Tail , and some days some Kob in between . buts its tough , the wnter is setting in water is cooling down ...
Theres also Silvers , and redfish  by day .
When your fishing this time of year with bait from a boat , you better have a Occy leg , reason being the Silvers are so thick in mid water , that you need to get it past them before they stip your hook . to get the the real fish .  The Kob and Geelbek hang together Barble on the bottom , 1 Fathom up Kob , 4 Fathom up Geelbek . when the Kob and Geelbek are feeding ke this , the Slver will be gone , as the water temp will be a bit up .


Some damn good fish from the side too , STeenbrasse , Bellmanne / Galjoen KOB , and Giant Grunters like n BUSSES .
With the species mentioned one can only fish Either Worm / Prawn of whole Sards for the big Grunters and Steene . The fish are really aaaallllll over , and hit and run type of fishing will produce , I mean not to move around by Car , Fan you cast out , start from 10 o'clock to 2 o 'cock  if the area premits , them make a long cast / then a short cast . really work an area , some times , you will be amazed what he place 2 or 3 meters to the side of  where you just casted on the previous cast can produce . my Dad is a master of this , he also believes if your not getting proper bites in your first 2 casts , move to the left of move to the right ,even if its just 10 meters ,  when fishing Galjoen and Reefish .

  Thanks for the good advice, Lenny. I know that I sometimes fall into this trap and cast the whole time where I think the fish will be and not where they are. Like your Dad said, if you don't get a decent bite cast a bit to the left or right, closer and further. That is why I like to snorkel where I fish (if possible) to see what is going on beneath the waves. It is amazing to see where the fish hang out. Some areas where you expected the fish will be completely deserted but then you move 5m further and you find a whole bunch of them together.

  Thanks Lenny, I am definately going to try moving around a bit in future when I don't get any action.  The snorkeling advice by SAfish is also worth a definate try as I have also found that it is worth doing before fishing especially new areas.  Just always be carefull when snorkeling new areas and spend some time first to "read" the area that you intend to snorkel.  Must be honest though, I am much more keen on taking a dive in KZN warmer waters before making a cast than the Cape's icebox..

Shot lenny. Thanks for the updates...this side brandfontein not great. Water was very clean and cold. Had our prawns...got some nice bloodworm on the brandfontein plaat. Fished a section properly. No luck. Went to find some better colour water. Not much luck there either. Beginning section packed with fisherman didnt see anything/hear of anything all day. Apparently some small steenbras on the dropping tide this morning.

Hi guys

Much better day in struis, took the morning off, fished the pushing tide at spookdraai. Got 3 nice elf, some small spotted gully sharks and get this...some cow sharks in between the elf. First time this has happened to me. Water had good colour. Anyway nice to have lots of activity in the water! hopefully the elf will hang around for a while!

The Elf has been buzy , Spookdraai , and despite the Brandfontein mission Turns123 made I know of 2 lekker 8 tot 10 kg Kob being caught there the past weekend , despite the Westerlies . Also some Good BELLMAN in the Brandfontein Area .


We had 8 mm of rain , almost thunderstorm type rain over night and yesterday , it was a perfect sun rise this morning , calm windless , the weather caught up by surprise , but looks like predicted SE in not a SE  but currently a SW ....


Dont be fooled it seems the fish and weather are lekker deurmekaar , so just fish !
No Worm , No Prawn , STay at home for me ....

From my side this is a great thread - thanks! Struisbaai and surrounds are such versatile fishing grounds. Having an experienced guy on the scene is priceless! Just happy to share my experiences with yourself and the guys. By no means an expert but that is the point of forum to learn. Fish was WILD this morn , ELF, KOB , Big Wildeperd , and Leeries .


We got our pulls on Tjokka , unbeaten .
Wildeperd are after your Redbait , they seem to like the Redbait more than Worm , which I find very strange .


Loads of peckers in the water , and also loads of dead kommerants all over washed up , and they seem to be sick the ones that are on in the Harbour .


May dad managed a nice Couple of Elf , I got one thats on the Pan tonight 42cm .
It was a smashing day up until 12 , when the Westerly came up with a GALE .
There might be a gap in the morning , and I am pretty keen to make another cast , theres plenty of action ....
