I use a a small 15-20 cm bite trace on all in moz cause the couta are thick ,the thickness of wire depends on how/if  the lures work properly.

We use to use a piece of nc steel of aboute 30cm on our spoons. 75lb was the lightes we've got. That was on a 5oz slim catching bigg elf. Don't know what it would do to a lures action.

Its not necesary to use wire but it helps if
U hook into a couta or big snoek,if ur gna use wire

I suggest you use a wire that does not kink.
I use 35lb Knot Too Kinky wire.i

going to be throwing 1.5-3oz from the shore(spinning) would rather have the extra protection incase, but don't want to affect the action of the lure or run the risk of it putting a fish off

Hi guys ,got bitten off by a big snoek the other day and got myself some kinkywire now. However joining it to fluorocabon is difficcult as the albright knot does not hold. With mono i get a perfect knot. Will mono leader  be ok to use if fishing for snoek.Would like to hear from all the snoek pundits out there.

Have a look at this slightly tweaked version of the albright knot....

However for the braid to mono join I would much rather use the FG knot. Have a search on this site.... there is a stack of posts on the FG knot. Well worth the effort reading them.

kevf , ive thought of using these as a bite trace when using lures etc , just remove the springclip at the end , not the swivel and attach one of those Swanel quick release clips or the Norman clips so that you can change lures , spoons etc.  leaving the swivel on to which your leader is attached allows the lure to retain its natural action in the water , see pic below..

Mike the crimp join thingmajig on those is not strong enough at all. They break well before your nylon

Boone makes good stuff big guy if its rated at 40lb it'll be dam close to it, you do get no name brand ones that are rubbish though.

:corrct: but for shad :shd:, most are quite adequate. Cannot remember when last I saw one of over 2 kg. Most are so small I am surprised they even get the hook in their mouths :-(.  :toppie:
