targeting broadbill during daytime at 1000 + meters. Use braid but drop roller guides, if possible
Been there done that! Rod has rollers but we never had a problem!Try winching up 6kg from 500m. The rod is all over the place and had plenty opportunity to snag the braid.
what was the 6kg?? I use 2 liter coke bottles filled with concrete, rigged break away style

Mate, there is no real advantage to using braid on your heavy trolling gear?? So the short answer is no I wont use braid on a rod with roller guides, for the very reason that you stated if they get stuck between the roller and guide it will part at some time.However I can only imagine that you are looking for capacity? in which case I still use dacron, it is thicker than braid but not thick enough to get pulled into the grooves on the roller, and then I add a top shot and then I still only have a 1150mtrs of 80lb line on a 80w Tiagra. so you are gaining around 230 mtrs in total so again a lot of expense for not a massive improvement and If you cant turn and chase a fish in that time then you need to just chalk it up to a goliath fish that stripped you and talk about it in the pub! But any skipper should be able to get a fish under control before your brassed.We used to use a lot of topshots on the big charter boats as we would then load the reels with dacron and only use 150-200mtrs of top shot mono, but this was only a cost thing as we were replacing the mono every 7-10 days!!!! And mono is expensive, so dacron used to last a lot longer and was a bit more durable, but braid is very different to dacron and a lot more expensive!The rig I have put aside for Broadbill, has no rollers so I can get away with being loaded up with braid, but I have made sure there is at least 20 mtrs of mono at the end as I am a firm believer in our need to have some stretch in the line, a little bit of give, braid is so direct I think it will pull more hooks direct than with having a bit of shock leader in between, I have no proof of this but its rather my own opinion. I think all of our 80w's now only have mono all the way.Also when fighting a marlin that has stripped a lot of line, having the mono loop dragging is a huge advantage of keeping the tension while you can spin the boat to get on a better pulling position on the fish. With braid you will not have as big a loop and therefore be more direct so yes you can get tighter on the fish quicker, but when its jumping and shaking its head its also coming up against straight drag and less of a softer cushion that the mono will be giving it?Im I making sense? Its how I do it nothing more, so not sure if thats what your looking for bud.
