Leeuwkloof Trip Report
« on: June 21, 2013, 05:19:32 PM »
We are a bunch of Veterinary Science students from  Onderstepoort that have a small internal fishing club running. Every year we do  a winter fly fishing trip. Being a Ultimate member for a couple of year’s  Leeuwkloof came into my head and after speaking to Stephan(BigVan) he set us up  for a good deal and we quickly had 16 eager students amped for a fishing  weekend.
We have a couple of seasoned angler amongst us but also  always take some beginners and girls with to show them the ropes with this  awesome sport we practice. This year was no different.
It was the last weekend of May and shortly after class we  left for Leeuwkloof around mid-morning on Friday. Arriving at the venue we were  greeted by the very friendly old lady who offered us everything and anything  and we were soon unpacked and rigging our tackle and the fishing started.
There are 4 dams situated reasonably close to the houses in  which we stayed. We fished mainly these especially the upper two dams. The  Friday afternoon was very productive and many of got our first fish within the  first couple of casts. Black woolly buggers seemed to do the thing.
We had a big chicken braai the Friday evening which was  great. The houses are very neat and well equipped with everything you need to  be comfortable. Saturday morning came and everyone was up early, fishing was a  bit slower but we still got fish. There seemed to be a many fish spawning in  the shallows and it wasn’t long before we figured they were interested in a large  white fly being stripped fast and we got a couple of fish. We released most  fish but also kept a couple which we smoked for breakfast, it was delicious.

The farm is very secluded and we felt pretty much on our own  looking into the valley down below. Sunday was also a great day we were blessed  with awesome weather and the guys including some of the girls got some fish.  Before we knew it our time was up, but it was a great weekend to spend with  friends and I would definitely fish the venue again, there are good fish and  the place is well run.
Below are some pictures
Cheers
Ian

Nice report and I am glad you guys had a good time and some nice weather. Thanks for your honesty by paying for the taken fish. You guys can't believe how many fish been stolen every year. Ianzo you and your mates are always welcome on the farm. Tight lines and plenty fish for the trout season.
