KZN SUPPLIERS DIRECTORY - Durban (user friendly) Suppliers
« on: December 10, 2012, 01:40:35 PM »
On Saturday some of the guys at the comp were talking about trailer parts and spares, and this got me thinking. There is a world of knowledge on this forum, and we all share similar problems and obstacles, and for that matter fixes in our sport and in general. If we can establish a directory of suppliers we use, this might save a lot of time and frustration, as well as money for someone in need, especially if they are from out of town or traveling. I know the internet is useful, but you can also spend 2 days being pushed from pillar to post until you find the right answer to your dilemma.

The directory must be easy to use (not long winded) and the suppliers must be user friendly and willing to deal with the public.

These are the ones I use in Durban:

Bearings/Seals - Bearing Man - 11 Palmfield Rd Springfield Park - 031 582 9000 - All Bearing and seals

Trailer parts - Metaforge - 85 Chris Hani Dr (North Coast Rd)  Braidene - 0861 71 81 93 - Leaf springs, trailer hitches, axles, rims, hubs, tail lights, bearing and seals etc

Webbing/Shackles - Multiquip - 2 Cedarfield Close Springfield Park - 031 579 4294 - Steel cable, nylon webbing, hand winches, D shackles, turnbuckles, lifting equipment etc

With regard to the recent repairs I had to do to Fat Girl

Bearing in mind it was at that time of year when most engineering companies and material suppliers are closed or closing.

These guys went the extra mile to help me get Fat Girl back on the water.

HJ Engineering - Devon Road, Pinetown - Richard - 0825217646
These guys made my shafts, are highly compentent with excellent workmanship, the even worked right through the night to get me my parts. There pricing is very fair. They also understand boats and boating very well.

Valley View Engineering - Crestholme - Neville - 0829737052
This guy has a really nice set up and can do all sorts of things including general engineering and stainless work, he offers a 24/7 service, collects and delivers. Even machined a spacer for me at 05h00 in the morning

I highly recomend both these companies.

@Gary (lebaka)

You're wrong, that Mandy's number, Candy's number starts with 079 ... and Sandy is 072...

From my ongoing boat build i wouldnt hesitate to recommend 2 companies...

Firstly Tomcat, their service and patience has been exceptional. Dave has gone above and beyond what i ever expected, always has time for questions and always willing to go the extra mile. The quality of their boat speaks for itself...

Secondly, Skiport Supply. Guys, for any and all of your skiboat needs please give Nick a shout. Awesome service, and all your skiboat needs under one roof!!!

Another really good company for all your trailer spares in Pinetown, cheaper than the ones mentioned and much better quality and service, Al-ko. They also have galvanized rims. They have everything for trailers, big trailer companies use them too.
Take it easy.....if you get it easy.......take it again.

Hope the KZN guys can help. I have looked all over Gauteng for these quick fastening buckles but the only available around here is an alloy and probably not a stainless spring. Don't think these will last long on/at the sea.

Aware that most these type things that they sell at the coast are made from stainless steel. Have Googled and seen that stainless steel ones are available in the USA and plenty of course also available made in China.

Please if you guys in Durban , or anybody in Cape Town or so see any like these in stainless steel, I am interested in 60 of these in SS. Will appreciate contact details of supplier and price indication.

Greatly appreciated!

Thank you most kindly Chigger!

Once needed stainless steel eyelets for my duck and only place I could get them and who imported to SA was at Feral Inflatables Durban. Rest were all brass coloured tin.
