Vibram FiveFingers as R&S fishing shoe

Hi all,

Has anyone ever tried these Vibram FiveFingers as rock and surf fishing shoes/booties?

Looks like they could do a good job but I'm not sure about how comfortable the individual toes will be...

bra i got toes like niknaks... seriously i wear a size 11 and if i had normal toes i'd wear probably a nine....

I tried one of thos jobbies on... if you don't have feet like a supermodel, in fact i think if you don't have feet like the exact guy that they made the mould from those things will be worse than sticking red hot needles under your nails...

Stick to the good old gumboot/claw boots ... you know they work ...

LOL, yeah you're right!

They could however add that as part of the marketing "Built in pedicure function" - nothing like a bit of sand grinding paste to sort out those dull toenails...

    niknak toes are ok, as long as they don't smell like niknaks!

The gumboots are ok in some situations but when wading or crossing channels to get to a desired spot they don't work all that good. I have tried surfing as well as diving booties but their soles are just to thin to spend a whole day on the rocks fishing.

I guess I will have to sick to the standard tekkie for the time being...

Have you tried the diving booties with the molded soles? I haven't used mine on the rocks yet but if wading is your main concern they could just work. These are my scuba-diving booties - not sure of one could call it moulded soles but what I am sure of is my feet really hurt after a days fishing.

I have this habbit of falling over my own feet on the rocks, the curse of size 11 feet,  skopping my toes on the rocks is a given, and i don't think those will offer much protection for ones toes.... i need steel toe caps for the rocks

My 2 bob....

We spend tons of bucks on tackle (rods, reels, line etc), but a lot of us (NOT all) tend to neglect the footwear side.

I made a choice 4 years ago to spend some bucs and got myself a pair of Salomon Tech Amphibians. These are the ones the adventure racing guys (and gals) use and they are THE BEST!!! They are light weight,but very tough and have a good tread for rock hopping.

Nothing against booties or gumboots, but the Salomons works in all scenarios: Rock, Beach, Wading, Swimming, Freshwater, and on the boat and they last. After four years of constant punishment (fishing, camping etc) mine are now due for replacement and I am getting a new pair before my next fishing adventure.

Only downside, they are a bit pricey, but nothing compared to a new rod, reel or a trip to the clinic after a slip and fall!!

Valid point, for those of us that don't live by the sea and look forward to fishing only a few times in a year, the last thing you want to do when on your fishing trip is to do an injury to yourself on the rocks which would prevent you from fishing the rest of your trip
Safety first... and like you said, if you prepared to spend the bucks on the tackle, no point in half measures, might as well spend the extra to make sure you are safe at your fishing spot

I have a similiar pair which I use to trap mussels,the soles are a bit thin for fishing though.
