In the market for a 5/6wt reel
« on: May 05, 2014, 08:12:05 AM »
I’m in the market for a 5/6wt reel . Budget a Grand and a half . The following reels are in my price range : 3-TAND TF40 . Xplore Guide III and the SONIK SK4 . Any comments and suggestions will be appreciated .

PS: The SAGE 2050 seems to be a great option too at +/- 2 Grand and some change.....

some other thoughts are the Redington Rise, Snowbee Geo and Daiwa Lochmor SLA.

I have the SLA and the drag is superb (I am biased yes but that a side)! Took it to Sterkfontein for yellows and never had a break off on light 4lb tippet due to the drag (A light drag granted)! Only my heavy handed striking was my downfall.

The T50 looks very nice but I haven't seen one in person.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the Shimano Biocraft Large Arbour reel.
As you well know the Shimano's are indestructible, the drag super smooth, with click by click increments, and in your budget.
P.S. They are also pretty.
If we caught fish on every trip, it would be called " Catching". We don't, and that's why it's called "Fishing".

Wychwood Flow and the Ross Fly Rise 2 Reel have both tickled my fancy as well . Wynchwood sounds like a lot of reel for the money . The Ross Fly rise sounds lekker as well but only limited info available on this reel . Anybody fished with the Ross Fly Rise ?????

My mate Dion has one of those and that is a fantastic reel for the price. Same tech drag as the much more expensive Ross Reels but not quite same finish. If you do go for this, go for the black as the gunmetal one looks a bit cheap...
