Tigerfishing trip to Okovango.

Hey Guys
I am trying to plan a trip to the Okovango, but finding it hard to get any good info on the net, all I am getting is lodges catering for tourists and charging huge amounts, I want to go camping near the river, and perhaps rent a boat for two or three days with a guide, anyone have any local knowledge, places I can enquire, suggestions, advice, I will really appreciate this.
Stay safe ............
Regards
B

Google Ndurukoro camp. Leon is a great host. Cost for accommodation very reasonable and you can negotiate for use of boat and longer stays. Divundu area.
Okacuito River camp is in a very good location. Good rates. About 90km east of Rundu.
Hakusembe river lodge, part of the Gondwana group. Best place to fish without walking far from camp site. About 15km west of Rundu.
Redfin river lodge, no info on internet, but good camping. not good fishing from bank. About 17 km west of Rundu.
Although there are a lot of lodges east of Divundu, the fishing is not very good below Popa falls although they all cater for fishing trips, it is usually a waste of time.

try Island View , chalets and camping , communal kitchen with fridges , bar , pool, boats for hire , stayed there 3 years ago . basic but fair value .

Bear in mind, Island view is on the Zambezi. Good place and knowledgeable guides.

One thing I would like to still do is catch a Tiger Fish. Years ago I was working in Botswana and my local colleague was adamant that we go up one weekend. I should of taken him up on it.

There was a good discussion on 4x4 community a while ago
It seems Drotskys cabin is the best option

I'm green with envy... Since I was young I've viewed Okavango as the ultimate fishing and destination... It's still on my bucket list... How much do you estimate such a trip will cost all in all?

Depending on fuel cost, leave the 4x4 bakkie at home, camping plus food and drinks.
can be done under R12000.00 for 10 days.

I was estimating R15 grand for a 9 day trip with 2 people and 3 days boat hirre and travelling with a 4X4 . Camping , to be honest this will be my 2 nd trip ever, I did one 10 years ago and caught a 8.1 kg on the first day on the lower zambesi, promised myself I will do another trip.
Will post pics for sure.

Is it 15 grand in total for both ppl? That's actually not as bad as I thought... Or do you mean 15 grand each person? You should definitely post some pics to make us jealous back here in SA

Wow that's much cheaper than I expected... You should let us know how the trip went... A trip to Okavango just went from a "maybe someday in the future" to a "totally doable trip within the next year" I'll watch this thread eagerly to see how it went
