Good morning All

I want to visit the Eersterivier, Tsitsikamma area and do some fishing for edibles or non edibles in September 2018. How is the conditions that time, species and what preferred bait to use in the area. It will be my first time the area.

Hope that you guys can assist me in this matter. Catch and release.

1 High tide.  Cast from beach around reef in middle of little bay.  Good for bronze bream and musselcracker and in rough weather galjoen.  The odd kob and elf is also hooked here.  Lots of smoothhounds is summer months.

2 Low/High tide.  Cast towards the boulder in the mouth of bay.  Cross current can be quite strong, so just reel in a little bit until you are in the shelter of the rocks.  Again good for above species.

3 High tide.  Good light tackle spot for all manner of reef fish.  Have caught the odd musslecracker and plenty of bronze bream there.  Good sheltered spot to fish the mouth of "Dasgat."  Even in strond wind.

4 Low tide with very little swell.  In fact, don't go there - very dangerous...  With very calm seas and I mean VERY calm, you can try the deeper water for cracker, poenskop, roman and various shark/rays.

5 Low tide.  Another good light tackle spot.  Blacktail, galjoen, bronze bream and zebras. Big crackers do come in here as well with the pushing tide. The odd white steenbras in the 4kg class can be expected as well.

6 High tide.  Fish the beach at night or early mornings with a pushing tide.  Steenbras, and sometimes kob make an appearance.  Plenty of elf are landed here as well.  Have seen some leervis in the waves but no takes.  Smooth hounds again favour this area along with the odd gully shark and blue ray.  Raggies and big flat fish sometimes enter the bay.  To your right is "Perdegat."  Another nice little hole to catch blacktail, etc during high tide, but also a very good area to catch mullets for live bait.

7 High/Low tide.  My favourite spot.  Cracker/Galjoen/bronze bream/belman/kob.  A bit of a walk/climb along the rocks, but worth it.  Go at low tide and fish with rising tide.

These satelite images were taken during a very calm sea.  Don't be fooled, the water can be very rough.  The entire Tsitsikamma area is known for freak waves, so don't take any chances.

But also not easy fishing..either, tried there for years and can count the really good fish on two hands (or less) Expect to loose MANY sinkers and tie many traces and feed lots of peckers..But there are occasionally nice fish, never seen a steenie there, heard of them, heard of cob, never seen one, heard of all sorts of reef fish but few and far between, roman, poensies, red steenbras, miss lucies but that not something that I've seen (except a roman) in years fishing there occassionally..got a few crackers..got a few elf..got smashed up many times by big gulley sharks..got crackers on baits meant for gallies and blacktails most times where as I've soaked a crab there how many times and not been taken..Lots of bait there. Beautiful area, one would expect better fishing with the reserve so close but must have been fished out heavily in the past as when I fish in other areas around the 100k radius I have much much more luck. But that said I love fishing there and something must be said for seabirds which have often come off or out the water and then just fallen asleep next to me, not fussed at all, there is not too much human pollution around. Peaceful place. But to fish the inaccessible places (and some accessible places further afield I have more luck). Not easy fishing..Great place for the soul..Second adam on the dangerous seas..Hectic rocks in places, not smooth friendly rocks in the least, seas are unpredicatable and so are the waves, unless on the beach or at dasgat you will get wet and watch yourself with any swell only fishing protected areas and watch the pushing tide at low tide spots as the flat shelves can get flooded cutting off your way back with sharp rocks and strong waves and surges. Great fishing, much easier and much more productive within an hours drive either way though..that said I still fished there occasionally.
