Fishing the Cotton Beat England
« on: November 07, 2015, 09:29:23 AM »
Earlier this year I spent some time in the UK and was fortunate enough to be able to fit in some very exiting trout fishing trips.
One of the most historic stretches of water I fished was the Dove River and the famous Temple Beat.  This stretch of river was made famous by Charles Cotton and his best friend Izaak Walton the author of the most read trout angling book The Compleat Angler, published in 1653. There is a vast amount of literature available on these two characters. My son in law and I spent the entire day on the one and a half kilometer stretch of river fishing until around 7.30 that evening, it stayed light until about 9pm whilst I was there. We managed to catch 6 brown trout during that time all around the same size as seen in one of the pictures.
Standing in front of the Charles Cotton cottage built in 1674 is myself on the left and the River Keeper on the right.
The other photo is of the so called "Pyke Hole" where the big browns hang out, a very deep section of water with a steep rock face at the back.
Anyone interested in seeing more about this unique fishing destination have a look at the attached youtube video.
