do Ouro and Malangane
« on: January 29, 2015, 05:33:28 PM »
We are going for a family fishing week to Ponta do Ouro on the 7th Feb, has anyone got any advice on rock and surf fishing in these areas ? The last time we went I fished South of the points at both places but got squat. The boys did alright on the jetskis but the beach produced nothing. Any advice  would be  appreciated. (plugs poppers and spoons).

I've never caught at Ponta. Anywhere. The locals have plundered everything. One morning saw a guy with a Cast Net netting tiny angel fish, Trigger fish, Surgeons - all tiny nursery fish. Snorkel in the Bay - there are no fish left. Nada.

Malongane, you need to get lucky as well. The point where the rocks are, is fishless, plundered. But if you walk North of the point, look for a hole or 2.

Frederico's is your best bet, North of mAlongane.

We where in ponta de Ouro  over new year ,  we had no luck . We snorkelled in the bay an saw hundreds of juvenile  kingfish  and plenty  reef fish and  saw the big goatfish  . The snorkeling  was much more productive  than the fishing. I never took my fishing ski and next time I'll  leave my surf tackle and just take my offshore gear including  ski

Plugger, R&S fishing at D'Ouro and Malongane produces no fireworks apart from the odd passing pelagic or Shark. These days it is even difficult to raise a fish at the supposed to be fishing paradise at Kosi Bay. You may get lucky north of Mamoli.

Your best bet is sliding for in-eds over evening high's or otherwise targeting juvenile pelagics in the bay's at sunrise and sunset.

Quite correct Toppie :corrct: . My last 3 trips to Kosi ( approx. 7 days each time) we caught at best 5kg per day between 9 anglers :dunno:. But the camping is great. :toppie:

As the guys say Do Ouro is pretty hit and miss rather go North towards Mamoli and Techobanine, however with that said I've caught Shad, King & Queenfish in the bay at Malongane in the past. This believe it or not all happened on one morning session using fly (Chartruese/White minnow), the rest of the days not a single take in the bay. I was in Ponta in April last year, threw spoons/poppers every afternoon only managed to foul hook some halfbeak (which subsequently become bait for the next mornings offshore session.)

Good day Plugger,

I have fished at Ponta Malongane a while back, went scuba diving there, where they launch the boats, the was a sudden drop off, fishing against the drop off with a small bass rod and crank bait, caught about 10- 1kg small kingfish and countless numbers of spotted pompano -awsome fight on light tackle, not much big fish around have also caught 1kg snapper on prawnbait at night there.
