Help needed
« on: October 11, 2013, 07:15:02 AM »
Hi guys,
I desperately need some help, pointers, info.
I'm going down to Toti from the 18th to the 24th of October and I NEED to catch some fish. I am one of those guys that hits the beach before light and leave after dark with almost no success in previous efforts.
I need some thoughts on my tackle and advise on how to catch...well anything
First the heaviest combo i have is the 9ft XH Berkley Cobalt rod 1-3oz paired with a Abu Garcia Soron STX 60 with 20lbs fireline.
Then I have a 7ft mh tiger rod with an Exeler 3000 with 20lbs spider wire
then the small one a 6ft Shimano Scimitar with an Abu Garcia Soron STX 20 with 10lbs spider wire...thinking this would be awesome for super light dropshop for black tail.

Was thinking of chucking spoons for shad with the 7ft, plugs and jigheads for cob and leeries with the 9ft and blacktail or whatever bites with the 6ft.

Also any tips on Toti? was thinking of going down to Umkomaas and fish the river and the river mouth as well.

what size singles do i put on ondas and spoons?

please guys any help will be awesome or if someone is lus to teach an anxious vaalie how to do it in the big blue that would be even better

Thanks a mil

Howzit Stan

Just remember Shad season is closed from 1 October to 30 November.
A good place to fish would be Inyoni rocks (shad place). There is a carpark leading right onto the beach and you will see a swimming pool surrounded by rocks, Thats Shad place.
you will find it off beach road. Do a goole maps of it and you cant miss the big blue pool protuding into the water. Fishing to the left of the pool seems to be popular and well as to the right on the beach.

Any of the rods you mentioned would be a good bet. But i would say go with the 7ft.
Dont forget to use a leader as the rocks will damage your braid.

For bait, pink prawn, chokka blob, sardine will be a good bet. Im not too familiar with artificial lures... maybe someone else can shed some light on this?

Another spot in toti would be Pipeline beach. Travel North on beach road till you come to the Pools. not too familiar with this spot either.

Not sure about the river in toti. Wouldnt take a chance at night. Not worth the risk especially if your going alone

Im sure the weather will clear. Dont think it will rain everyday that your here. People say that there are 2 times to fish... when it rains and when it doesn't. Havnt tried fishing in the rain. Check on the forum, do a search

Read Shivaan first reply, Shad season is closed till end November, you don't want to come on holiday and get into trouble with the law. You should get blactail, a pompano if the water and bait presentation is right, also maybe a cob or two at night. Some nice pompano have come out infront of the Toti spur on the beach front at night.

A friend was spinning of the rocks two weeks back got  Garrick of 6.4 and a snoek of 2.2 of the rocks nfront of the pool, using a S-bend spoon.

As for the river (give that a complete miss) the river system here is so messed up so don't waste your time.

If you walk along the beach North of Toti main rocks Nyoni ocks for + - 1km past pipeline, there is Twini ledges good area for spinning, but just be aware of other people on the beach as there have been reports of incedents of crime.

Enjoy your holiday, hope the weather improves for you Windguru showing signs of nasty weather moving in.

Just my luck hey....go to the coast and get k_k weather....well it's either pneumonia or fish but I am gonna catch something.
got some iron candy foil bullets, some v backs, tobeys, chisel & needle nosed pluggs, poppers, some bucktail jiggs, big paddle tails, small paddle tails, blood worm, camo worms and most of my bass stuff. something is gonna bite or I'm throwing a skelm line at ushaka marine world...
thanks for the heads-up on the safety issue...hate it to have to look over your shoulder when relaxing.

I just moved my holiday to the 26th to the second...nice to have a cool boss.
Looks like better weather during the last week of october, if you can trust the weatherman. Hopefully I can catch some sun as well as fish
