Title: Msikaba
Post by: Jaybennie on May 12, 2012, 09:17:20 PM
Hi guys, I'm new here, and will be going to Msikaba in the middle of June!

I will be fishing with bait etc, but want to spend the majority of my time spinning, as this is still new to me. Please advise as to what tackle etc, spots that produce in the area, as well as what species  to be expected that time of year? I have just added an Aerocast 9ft xh and Stradic 5000 to my arsenal ( don't tell the wife), and can't wait to bend it a bit.

Would be great if some silver tide made an appearance at the same time, but that's being very hopeful. :tkx:  Guys and keep it  :sreel:

:welc: Jaybennie , there should be a report coming up soon from Rory,Jeff and some friends that were recently in that area which they frequent often , best bet is to wait til they back and have a chat with Rory.

Thanks for the welcome guys.
I will get hold of Rory, thanks Mike!
Went down this morning to try out my new Aerocast - WOOHOO! That rod loves anything 2 oz! Threw bullet spoons and needle nose plugs for miles, unfortunately no takers, not even a small shad. I think I might have found my weapon of choice for the silver tide!

Off to Msikaba bright and early, wish me luck!
Sards are starting to make an appearance here, so hopefully we'll have some action down south as well.

Hey guys, thanks for all the well wishes! Got home late yesterday, thanks to a broken trailer and some bush mechanics.
We had an awesome trip, the weather was a bit cold and windy on the Thursday, but was probably our best fishing day. We got plenty of shad, decent size as well, round about 40cm. A few bronze bream and I also managed a White Steenbras of around 3kg, which is my PB to date. I lost a Garrick of about 4kg which I saw when he jumped and threw my plug. This would have been my first Garrick on plug, so I was a bit bummed, but I did get to bend my 9ft Aerocast for about 30 seconds.
On Friday the weather was awesome, and the swell had dropped quite a bit. We had the same sort of day with some shad, a couple of bronze bream etc. We lost 2 sharks/flatfish on live shad/carrenteen, snapping us off on the bricks.
Saturday the weather was awesome, the sea was blue and flat, and the fish were non exsistant. We spent the whole day on the bricks, and it was awesome, however only about 2 shad came out. We were fishing on the Mkambati side, and on returning were told that on the island the shad were coming out every cast. One youngster of about 6 caught about 12 by himself, his dad was very proud. Just our luck.
Sunday was a quick early session, with no takers, then packed up and left after a hearty breakfast.
Had great weather, great company, and learn't a lot - couldn't ask for more, now to start dreaming about the next trip! fshg
