Recently i purchased a Penn Fierce 4000 spinning reel  and matched up with a Daiwa MFB 902HFS ( rated 30 - 50 grams)  rod for throwing hard and soft plastics and small baits in the surf zone , estuaries and off the boat , recently put this combo thru its paces in Kosi and was very impressed with the combo , especially the reel , never skipped a beat , seized up or any problems at all , + was often soaked in the surf zone while wading and spinning : specs are as follows courtsey of Penn Reels : gear ratio--- 6.2:1
           mono capacity--- 8lb / 280 yds...10lb /230 yds ....12lb / 170 yds
           braid    "  "    --- 15lb / 335 yds...20lb / 275 yds....30lb / 205 yds
           weight 12.4 oz  / 351 grams
full metal body and side plate   / high strength graphite rotor  / machined and anodized aluminum spool  / oiled felt drag system   / 4 + 1 stainless steel bearing system , 10 lb drag and balanced rotor.

Remove  the 3 screws and retaining  spacer from top of spool to acess the dragwasher stack ( quite unique as most spinning reels have spring clip as opposed to this retainer spacer  so no things to go "twang" into the dstance and it doubles as a seal to keep sand and water out the drag washers)

Remove the screw that holds the spool shaft assy to the crosswind block to remove the spool shaft , thus giving you access to remove the drive gear assy

Drag system cleaned up and re- greased as well , re-fitted to spool in reverse order of disassembly and finally reel all back together and ready to go as smooth as silk... hope this helps those who own one of these Penns , im sure the smaller models , 1000 ,2000 , 3000 and the larger ones have the same internals , best way to tackle servicing is to take pics as u go along and stick to the exploded diagram which comes with the reel and all will be ok , happy servicing . :-)

Mike, my problem is not taking them apart, but putting them together again. How many surplus screws you got left?

Good TUT - well done - know now where to bring my reels.
