Hi guys, hope you all had a great weekend, especially the guys who went to the social, I am :envy and bleak I missed out...
Anyway here is my flyfishing report from the weekend... Myself and a few friends travelled to Millstream Farm, my father and mother could not make it as my father is too ill to travel these days...
It was Mrs Simpson and Myself, Mrs Simpsons sister, gavin erwin, his girlfriend and our mate Sean.
We arrived to a hot afternoon on Friday and quickly set up and Sean was on the water first... He landed 2 fish before myself and Gavin had finishged tying our leaders on, back they went... Sean got 6 more and Gavin got 4, I only managed the 2 which were kept for the pot, onje was a nice hen weighing 1.1 kgs, caught on an Olive Woolly Bugger in the"big fish weir" My beauty... All the fish we caught were in pristine condition and I have never seen such colourful, strong stock trout in my entire fly fishing career. After that we retired and had a few beers and spoke about the day ahead tomorrow!

I was up at 5am on saturday morning and it was very cold, but very beautiful with the highveld mist rising from the water... I quickly got one small :trout: while Gavin and Sean headed to Lake Millstream, the biggest body of water on the farm, its 20 acres. Gavin was un fortunately unsuccesful but Sean managed a 1.5kg Hen (Which looked bigger) and a 1.1 kg Cock... After that we fished many dams and Sean and Gavin nailed the fish one after the other, I only got 6 for the day, including a fingerling in one of the big dams... We also caught 3 fresh Trout in the 400-500 gram region which Gavin smoked to perfection!

After a bit of a heavy night we were on the water at about 7 and early morning we all got fish opver a kilo, Sean got the biggest, it was a fat long fish but the scale read 1.2kgs :cnfzd it was bigger than that we were sure... We then fished the trophy dam without success and fished Lake Tintern for a while before we headed bAck home... It was a great weekend with lots of fish caught, here is the summary:
Sean got 20
Gavin got 19
I got 12
The flies that did the most damage was the olive Lake Dragon, Olive Woolly Bugger and Olive Fritz...

Nice going there Gareth,
My only question is when did you get the time to have your head shaved? First pic you have hair..the rest nought. Rainbows make extremely good eating...think they are my absolute favorite.

Firstly GREAT report WK. (clap)
Why I highlited the above is just that I am intrigued, how much R 0.00 per kilo, and is it similar to Brookwood where the "ghillies" net your fish and take it straight to the scale ?
-
Hi Hermann, the cottage we were in entitles you to a bag limit and this limit was 15... I know we kept the limit we had to keep one fish which could not be revived a few that were bleeding and then we also wanted 3 to smoke fresh. Its very nice though, depending on the size of the cottage you get a bag limit, so you dont pay anything, you gut them yourselves and they even supply you with fish bags to freeze them in :-)
-
Well done WK, seems like an awesome expedition and agree the fish look in excellent condition. Nice sizes too. Thanks for the good report!
Wonder what this spot will/fishes like in winter?
-
Thanks Clive...
This spot fishes 10 times better in Winter, the fish are generally bigger and more aggressive, you get a lot more fish :-)
-
Hey WK, that's cool. :happ: I just had images of 15 fish @ ave 500g @ R 70.00 per Kilo :shk
That would have been one EXPENSIVE weekend otherwise :shk
