I get this rude awakening this morning at about 3H30. Sit up straight in bed and look out at the trees and their is not a breath of air moving and no rain. With this I get the feeling that I have to go fishing. So I jump out of bed grab my work outfit and jump into fishing gear. I run down stairs after saying goodby to Mandy and grab my spinning tackle and head of to Blue lagoon. Apon ariving I see the water and new exactly why I I woke up the way I did. As I got into the car park their was a nother guy with the same idea as I had.
I rushed to get a plug on and of I went.
Now I am no spinning guru and all I know about this is how to catch shad on a spoon. This is only my second outing with this tackle. The first was to see how the rod and reel handled. This trip/outing was the first reel fishing sesion I was taking with this set up.
I must have done about 10 - 15 casts and their in slow motion I se this Garrick leap out the water and jump onto my plug. I let him take the rod down before reeling in. Two seconds later, line of swr swr my knot between braid and leader duh . Heavy lesson to learn. But within a flash I am back in the game.
Moved of onto the beach to the south and changed to spoon. Here I went on again and this time was bitten of on my wire. This time not to many swr because it was not my mistake, but none the less <: . I put a nother leader on in two seconds but forgot to put the wire on and just gheus what happened after two casts. Nother spoon gone.
Lesson learnt from this is to make sure your knots are right and if all goes well and I wake up at 3H30. I will make my way back their again. Hopefully this time with some better luck.

No luck Fritz...!
Run us through the knots you're using to connect Braid to leader...?
You using the HMP Braid? Leader?
Tackle?
-
Some days are really off... but hey Fritz you had a good morning! You had fish at the end of your line... the thrill of watching a fish chasing your lures is enough to keep you going for a while...

No luck Fritz...!
Run us through the knots you're using to connect Braid to leader...?
You using the HMP Braid? Leader?
Tackle?
Tackle used was a Stella 5000 SW with a Shimano Lesath 10ft.
Main line/braid This was origenally said to me that it was 30bl Nanofil. After you bringing it to my attention that their is no such thing as 30bl Nano. The box is marked at 12bl but the line actually breakes at +-25bl.
Knots in the line where:
Braid to leader. Started with Uni knot but after first bust up chaged to figure 8.
Leader to wire is a Uni
Wire to swivel is a nother figure 8
The wire that I am using is called Knot to kinky
-
Actually I am not to bumed about it. I have learned my lesson and had a whale of a time. Now I look at my watch avery 5min and I am wishing the day past to get back to the water.

No worries Fritz, every mistake is a lessoned learned.

Ah ok...! Your Knot failure now makes sense...
I Tested the Nanofil out quite extensively and used it a lot at Vidal. The stuff is VERY VERY difficult to keep a decent knot. It is so slippery... Not even the 7 turn Uni to Fig 8 would hold properly without slipping. So when using the Nanofil, you need to be extremely careful about what knot to use. Berkley recommend the Modified Albright, but I was not particularly impressed. Eventually worked out one that works quite well... I now double the braid and do a 15 turn Uni on the Braid side, with a 3 loop figure 8 on the Leaderside. Whatever knot you use, you need to test it hard to make sure it's not slipping.
How is that Lesath rod? Happy with it?

How is that Lesath rod? Happy with it?
Like a pig in dung!
Very happy Tony, it has a slower action then the Erocast and it took some time getting used to the casting. But now it sliceses thru the air like a hot knife thru butter.

Are you happy that you got a 10 ft one and not longer? What sort of distances are you getting with the 10ft?

Tony I was a bit bumed that thei had run out of 11ft rods. But the 10ft is 100%. Distance, I can honetly not tell you. What I can say is that I did manage to get a good 25m on the other guys fishing with me.
Pierre I will see you in the morning.

There also was a slight but distinct smell of sewerage in the air (from the Umgeni river) which was off-putting. Maybe we must try that other productive spot in the same area sometime.

Aww, sad luck guys! Good effort for being out there though, perseverance pays off in the long run!
