Title: KLOOFZICHT LODGE
Post by: Lichia amia on August 15, 2011, 10:36:02 AM
Mrs. Lichia and my self had the privilege to fish one of Gauteng’s best trout waters on Sunday morning.  The day started with a mere 20 min drive from Randburg to the lodge , as we entered the lodge we where greeted by Bles Buck , Water Buck and the breath taking a site of a valley filled with Trout dams and stylish thatch roofed buildings.

We met up with our guide for the day and set off to the member’s dam just after 09:00 which is roughly the size of Leeukop filled with crystal clear water. There was a lot of activity in the water and I spotted a trout the size of a Magnum bottle of Red Wine. Needless to say “Viskoors” got the better of me and I was foaming around the mouth. We fished the member’s dam hard for about 40 minutes with out anything to show and moved on to one of the smaller dams.

The smaller dam is stocked with +/- 350 trout and a couple of Large mouth Yellow’s. The visibility was very impressive and fish could be spotted virtually through out the dam. We again fished really hard and despite having my fly chased by what looked like a largie of 2kg plus got nothing to show.  No other fish where landed while we where there and it was going to one of those fishless days for everyone.  But Kloofzight will definitely see me soon again. At R130 per rod for the day to fish a 5 star catch and release venue, a bargain of note !

Okay cool. Just asking as I know of 2 other venues in that area that claim to have largemouths. Turns out the they are actually largescale that are naturally found in the streams in that area.

As far as I know there is nice section of river that can be fished too. Last time I was there we were not allowed to fish the members dam. You have to pay a massive amount of money to become a member. But is is still beter than paying R75/kg like at some venues. Then you catch a 2kg on your first cast and catch youself into a new homeloan overdraft.

The reason why we got to fish the members dam is that we went on a package deal lunch, guide fishing .It’s a lekker place and well worth the effort and bucks.

I fished Kloofzicht a while back.
I didnt go for trout but had fun with the carp and bass on fly. If you can get the carp to feed on bread off the surface then its quite easy to hook them with a white bread fly. That small dam just below the big trout dam produced some nice carp.
Its a super venue but the price is a little steep for regular outings I reckon.
