Title: Brenton-on-Sea
Post by: SAfish on January 07, 2011, 09:41:30 PM
I took my son to the beach at Brenton the other day and saw these nice looking formations. I thought they looked good for spinning for Leeries at high tide. I told Myburg at my local tackle shop about my plans and he suggested that I should take some Pilchard with me and try for Sand Sharks. I have been blanking this whole December holiday and would rather catch a cold than blank again! I changed my target species to Sandies and went there this afternoon. The tide was pushing and the water looked awesome.
I walked about 500m away from the bikini cladded distractions  :shk  (hit)

I fished with my Daiwa SL30 loaded with 9.1kg Ultima Power Plus mono and my Exage 110H rod. I baited a 4/0 hook with a nice Pilchard belly and on my second cast I got a small Sandy of 42cm and then another of 60cm. I then upped my hook size to a 5/0 and a bigger bait and managed to land a Sandy of 89cm. After that it was time to go home. I will definitely be back tomorrow afternoon to get more of the action. Like Myburg said: "you never know when a nice Kob will pick up your bait"!
Here is a view of the beach from the parking area and the biggest Sandy. My homemade UA card is 7cm long to give you an idea of the size of the fish.

Nice one Hermann , if all else fails , just go for whatever is out there... beats blanking when targeting certain species. :sml:

Haha, thanks guys. They are small but I am going back this arvie to get some bigger ones.
Check out this glorious day but note the mist bank at "the heads". The sea water is very cold and I heard today that some grunter's
washed up on the beach.  :sadd

Your best bet will be to target White Steenbras off the beach and the rocks at "die blokke". You also stand a chance to get Musselcracker and Galjoen. Buffelsbaai has got some great spots to target these species and it is a short drive from Brenton. Pop in at Breezers Fishing tackle shop in Grey Street Knysna for good service and an update on the fishing. I have not fished in a while but there are some good Grunters coming out of the lagoon at the moment.
